Forgotten Heroes: Sorcerer
Publisher: The Black Orifice
by Michael D. [Verified Purchaser]

A really interesting collection of methods for modifying the sorcerer class. If you are interested in playing around with your magic system a must read. I plan on incorporating quite a few of the idea from this book in my next campaign as it is a great way to more distinctly differentiate the sorcerer from the wizard.

Like I stated when I reviewed Swords of Our Fathers, I think it's a little silly to want to take levels in a prestige class to gain the powers of a magic item. The concept is unique, and it has merit, but just doesn't appeal to me at all.

The Taverner's Trusty Tome
Publisher: Dark Quest Games

Sort of a cross between a bartending manual and a book of magic items this book has a LOT of potential utility, but only if you want to spend the time detailing your bar. I have usually just picked on item to be able to descibe in detail off the menu, but with this I have a whole selection of cool drinks to throw at my characters, as well as what happens when they start really pounding the booze.

Cool idea, particulary if you are new to spellcasting and don't know the details of most spells of the top of your head. Worth the money for those that like to have those little details readily available.

Modern Player's Companion, Volume One

This is a solid well written product that is worth purchasing if you expect to run a d20 modern game. My only problem with it is that's not terribly exciting. I normally look for really interesting ideas, and this is more of a solid ideas product which is the only reason not to give it a 5.

The ideas in here are very interesting, but often so off the wall as to be essentially useful. Great reading for ideas, but hard to mine for useful rules.

Three Arrows for the King: The Archer's Guide (Revised)

Really great book that gets kind of torpedoed by the 3.5 edition rules. Would like to see an updated version of it that is 3.5 compliant.

Everyone Else: A Book of Innkeepers, Farmers & More

Incredibly useful to have on hand if you need a fully detailed bartender, but since I don't usually worry about the AC and hit points of my bartenders, or if I do they probably wouldn't be "everyone else". Very nice for those that like to have the stats on hand for almost any garder variety NPC.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't like the idea of taking levels in a prestige class just so I can use the powers of a sword.

Modern Day Maps X
Publisher: LPJ Design
by Michael D. [Verified Purchaser]

Well, it wasn't what I was hoping for. I wanted a nice little collection of maps in a constant 1 in. = 5 ft. scale that I could drop on the table for combats. That is not the case. In theory you could try to print them out and enlarge the photocopy to get that, but since the maps aren't really anything particularly special I'm not sure it's worth the effort or the trees.

Another question I have is, why do you need a map of a fast food drive through? How many people have trouble visualizing one of those? A few of the other maps are along the lines of the fast food drive through and that certainly detracts from the products usefulness in my eyes.
