Unbidden is another extremely well designed little RPG by Politically Incorrect Games. The setting is post-modern, urban dystopian Horror, superficially similar to "Kult", "the World of Darkness", and "Unknown Armies". However in this case, the antagonists are immortal, incorporeal, demonic forces whose goal is to promote corruption and human suffering. The player characters are humans who are aware of the situation and who have psychic powers, yet sadly are socially marginalized. The mechanics are essentially an extended version of the original GenreDivrsion rules, using a roll under (Trait+Skill) on 2d6. Bonus and penalty dice allow the roller to select the best or worst two dice out of a group rolled. In addition, a dementia system is used to keep track of stress and mental illness similar to the system in "Call of Cthulhu". This product contains templates which are cut, folded, and pasted into sets of polyhedral dice. These rules make no attempt to accurately simulate a historic period or genre of fiction. Instead the emphasis is on playability and simplicity. Rules are given for skirmish, large scale (formations), and very large scale battles. The rules are intended to be adaptable for use in different scales. Individual units are purchased after their stats are custom crafted by the player. Material is included for vehicles including land, air, water & space craft; Mecha; custom creature creation; and Magic and Psionics. Twelve and six sided dice are used. I highly recommend these rules for the casual miniature wargamer.

This is an excellently well written little game. It has simple but complete mechanics and clever design using garden variety six sided dice. It has a somewhat generic and minimalist ghost story/horror movie/mystery setting. Because of this, it doesn?t spend a lot of time explaining its themes or developing a detailed setting, since it assumes the reader is already familiar with the basic genre conventions. This very much reminds me of early 1980?s role playing games, which had rulebooks that could be read in an afternoon, and which typically came in a box with a set of dice, such as the first editions of Chill or Call of Cthulhu. I highly recommend this product.
