These don't actually work for ALL purposes; rather, they provide a decent rules framework for squad-based skirmish games, large engagements, and epic engagements. If you're looking for something that can handle RPG-like framework for simulating Star Trek / Doctor Who "heroes and redshirts" objective-based engagements, Fantastic Worlds is fast and flexible and available for only slightly more.

On the other hand, if you're just looking for a way to use your entire miniatures collection for wargaming, this is not at all a bad way to go. A bit beer-and-pretzels, but fun.

Interesting rules set. Decent amount of detail without being overly complicated. There is not a lot of polish to the set but I think it would be fun to play. Definitly worth the money even if you are just a "collector" like me. :)

DISLIKED: The rules could be organized a little better. The combat, although easy to understand, took a few reads to completly figure out. There was a strange distinction between "Armor" and "Defense" which showed what kind of armor was worn.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
In one word... BLEAH! I'm sorry, but this stank almost as bad as BDA! I cant believe I paid money for this. I cant even bring myself to print it out and store it in the back of the game self.

LIKED: Hmmmm, NOTHING!

DISLIKED: Just about everything. The mechanics, art, writing style... you name it, I didnt like it. It may be to others tastes, but not mine.

QUALITY: Disappointing

VALUE: Ripped Off
These rules make no attempt to accurately simulate a historic period or genre of fiction. Instead the emphasis is on playability and simplicity. Rules are given for skirmish, large scale (formations), and very large scale battles. The rules are intended to be adaptable for use in different scales. Individual units are purchased after their stats are custom crafted by the player. Material is included for vehicles including land, air, water & space craft; Mecha; custom creature creation; and Magic and Psionics. Twelve and six sided dice are used. I highly recommend these rules for the casual miniature wargamer.

Nice set of generic rules, but a bit too simplified and abstract in a few areas for my tastes. It would really benefit from another editing once-over and a little more depth to the weaponry lists, but it's more than serviceable enough if you want an evening's worth of beer and pretzels gaming using anything and everything in your figure collection.

Wonderful set of rules. It really delivers what it says and does it well. My only complaint is with the weapons list that is far too short. Whilst it is easy to plug the holes, using existing weapons as exemples, it would have been better for an universal set of rules to be more comprehensive. But it is nitpicking.

What can I say? I love this system. Not only is it easy to learn and play, it is extremely versatile and completely customizable. Included are rules fro playing three different battle scales: skirmish, large scale, and massive.

Their are rules for completely creating units from the ground up including: individual troops; land, air, and sea vehicles; mechs; spells; and even monsters.

I really get a lot of use out of the system for building mechs so that if you choose to play massive scale combat you could use them as well, much like some other games that are far more expensive and collectable.

I have had countless hours playing with friends with loads of mis-matched minis and paper minis. The possibilities are endless and just a little imagination on your part makes for multiple great gaming sessions.

The only downside I found was a part of the magic system. They have rules to calculate how much it would cost to creat and equip a wizard with a spell and a good point based spell system, but there is no rules to define how many points a spell would cost to use during play, (although their are examples to guage your homebrew spells by).

Other than that though the game is near perfect. I hope that in the future they will release supplemental army packs of paper minis at the different scales sorted by genre.

Very worthy buy. What are you waiting for? Pick it up!

All-Purpose Miniature Rules I admit I was a bit disappointed with this product when I first read it. The rules seemed more humorous than playable. Troops only had 3 stats and the weapon listings seemed lacking in variety.

Boy was I wrong!!!

Luckily a neighbour wanted to play a game late one Saturday and I did not have any regular miniatures or rule sets available. We put together our RPG miniatures, used the APM Rules to generate the troops and had a good old battle between Fantasy Orcs and Sci-fi Gangers. As humorous as it sounds we both enjoyed the night and marvelled at how well the rules adapted the two genres together into a serious game.

The manual has a cool way of making things even! My Heavy flamer dude wasn't expecting to get hit by a shaman fireball nor have the rock golem disappear into the scenery as he got it in his sights.

On closer inspection there was a lot more to a trooper than his 3 stats, and that goes for the rest as well.

There are 3 scales of combat Skirmish (25-28mm), Mass(15-28mm) and Massive (6mm, 1/300). There are rules for vehicles, robots, creatures and magic/psionics. There are samples of all combatants and a large selection of sample armies that you can use or ignore. Game templates and construction sheets are also included.

It uses a D12 combat system that works well with the construction systems.

I have played about 7 games now, including conventional fantasy, historical and Sci-fi. We will be getting together to play a "Massive combat" space battle between two Star-fleets.

How many rule sets do you know of that can cover all these type of genres?

The rules aren't rigid for those of you who like to tweak your games with Houserules. Although not for everyone I would recommend these rules as a quality, comprehensive gaming system.

This is my favorite kind of miniatures game, let me use the miniatures that I have or the ones that catch my eye, let me assemble an army to my own specifications, and let me play the damn game to it's bitter end in less than a hundred hours.

This is an easy to use and fun to play game that can be used for almost any battle you can imagine!
