I've found this book to be very useful in introducing strange, non-magical items into games to confuse and scare my PCs. It is also very handy to use as a template in designing my own items.

I bought this product yesterday, mostly because I found the 101 spellbooks to be a intriging product, yet I found this one to be superior in many ways. Both graphical and layout wise this product is an improvement over the 101 Spellbooks. The book details 15 varient armours, 15 pieces of clothing, 11 pieces of jewellry, 39 miscellaneous items, 4 musical instruments, and 16 weapons. All items include descriptions of appearance, appraisel information and any special rules for the item. The best thing about the product is that it elevates mundane treasures to the status of "treasure" and not just stuff to haul back to town to get 1/2 price for. Another important factor when looking at a supplement like this is that there is really no other similar supplements that you might have, unlike spells, PRC, and monster supplements that seem to come in the mail with those little sample boxes of Tide. The two negative comments that I can have toward the product is that there is only 101 items and at the end I was looking for more things and that because the supplement is so affordable I was forced to purchase another less favourable pdf just so I could use my credit card (minimum purchase price on the site is $5). It is my hope that Phillip Reed will create another 101 divergent supplements.

I have to confess that this book makes a VERY pleasant change to all the other spellbooks, wondrous magics, arcane devices that are popping up all over the place.

Its amazing how many times I have needed to generate a list of more regular items (including those out of the ordinary) for marketplaces and where I didn't want to put the serious treasure. Players either get bored searching rooms and discovering nothing because it's all bundled behind the big bad guy, or become too complacent because almost every other room yields either gems, money, a magical item or masterwork tool.

One of the first hardback DMGs had an excellent series of charts and tables for creating mundane ornamentation to help flesh out rooms, I still treasure it today, this book is just the ticket to keep my players amused and intrigued about what they will discover next (as well as arguing for hours about whether it's really worth keeping).

Brilliant work, a breath of fresh air.

Respectfully, I have to disagree with the review posted above. While I can't deny that the borders may be an issue for many, isn't that why the latest Adobe Reader has text-select?

My considered opinion is that this book is simply an -incredible- piece of work. I'm not overfond of lists of treasure <with the noticable exception of Mr Greenwood's classic Dragon articles> so perhaps that gives this some perspective. Simply put, I came in expecting 'another nice product' and was simply floored. This product is inventive, creative..in general, quite stellar. While I admit that more detail on the new metals and such would be nice, enough is given that I can happily customize them for my own campaign.

Keep up the good work, Mr Reed. Spider Bite Games has joined Bastion Press on my list of 'Will reccomend to friends unequivocally' list.
