I don't normally gush, but.. I'm amazed. I didn't think Philip's products could -get any better, but this is a quantum leap beyond my wildest hopes. Best yet, its a product line: There will apparently be more. I'm going to buy each and every one..and I'd heartily reccomend that all fans of steampunk, or offbeat fantasy or robots, or even die-hard Planescape folks buy this. I've been looking for something like this, of this caliber for years. Phil, thnk you! I can't wait for 101 Clockwork and Magical Prosthetics..to say nothing of the rest of the Construct Mechanus line!

Well, I do like this one. Its good and well-written, despite a few typos and omissions. It didn't grab me quite as much as 'Treasures' did, I confess, but its solid, well-done work. I, for one,am still looking forward to 'Codex Mechanus'..and perhaps technomagic supplements based on it? Keep up the good work, Philip.

Respectfully, I have to disagree with the review posted above. While I can't deny that the borders may be an issue for many, isn't that why the latest Adobe Reader has text-select?

My considered opinion is that this book is simply an -incredible- piece of work. I'm not overfond of lists of treasure <with the noticable exception of Mr Greenwood's classic Dragon articles> so perhaps that gives this some perspective. Simply put, I came in expecting 'another nice product' and was simply floored. This product is inventive, creative..in general, quite stellar. While I admit that more detail on the new metals and such would be nice, enough is given that I can happily customize them for my own campaign.

Keep up the good work, Mr Reed. Spider Bite Games has joined Bastion Press on my list of 'Will reccomend to friends unequivocally' list.

101 Spellbooks, Tomes of Knowledge, and Forbidden Grimoires

Like the others who wrote in about this, my first impressions were generally quite posative.

I too would have liked to see more detail on the contruction of the spellbooks, suggested histories and enchantments <always an underrated aspect of any grimoire!>. However this is a -very- well-written and inexpensive product, so I can't really complain.

On the other hand, I'd have appreciated a few more spells not available on the web or from published sources, as well as possibly a few suggestions for 'spellbooks' of a less standard nature. Grimlock stone spindles? Spellgems? I'm all for going non-Vancian, where possible.

Overall, I'd reccomend this author's work highly! I'm looking forward to his 'Codex Mechanus' next month as well.
