Dungeon Deck
Publisher: Crooked Staff Publishing
by Patrick C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/21/2020 15:24:50

This is an entertaining deck. Each card has a different image, more or less. Some are mirrors or rotations of other cards, but this is not actually a problem, just an observation. The images take up more or less the top square portion of the card, with suit and rank acorss the bottom. Printing seems to be close enough to perfect, as there's no problem aligning multilple cards. Use them for inspiration in designing your own catacombs, or for flavor in a game that uses cards as props. I really want to use them for a Savage Worlds chase through the sewers.

Thrilling Tales Adventure Deck (Savage Worlds)

As other reviewers have said, these are great cards, both in appearance and usefulness. I'll just add that I've only found one that doesn't work with SWADE, a card that allows the player to trade bennies for XP. Which is a testament to the excellent design work that went into these.

Blood and Brains: The Zombie Hunter's Guide
Publisher: RPG Objects
by Patrick C. [Verified Purchaser]

Covers all the zombie movie basics, including some I'd all but forgotten. Zombie and horror movie fans will recognize the sources. and includes a far-fetched short story as well. Far-fetched even for the genre, really. Plus there's a nice critical hit chart for blowing off limbs, etc.

LIKED: The occupations: Boy Scout, Jock, Mental Patient, etc., are a nice bonus, as are the huge list of zombie types.

DISLIKED: The short story is well-written, but even for zombie movies it's far-fetched.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Vampire Hunter$: Modern OGL Compatible
Publisher: Team Frog
by Patrick C. [Verified Purchaser]

For a game that's about hunting vampires, you'd expect more than just "greater" and "lesser" vampires in the monster list. But it covers the well-known ground adequately, with an emphasis on movie-style plots over novels. If you already have a preferred Buffy-style game, this isn't going to change your mind. But it's a decent modern-day add-on and readily ported to other systems.

LIKED: More than just vampires, the bestiary covers a host of classic movie monsters, some under assumed names.

DISLIKED: It uses a confused mishmash of d20 and d20 Modern. The classes read like d20 Modern Advanced classes, but they start at first level like D&D. (It'd be extremely easy to convert them, though.) And the skill list has been both supplemented and pruned. It really should have stuck with d20 Modern.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
