0one's Blueprints: The Citadel
Publisher: 0one Games
by Patrick T. [Verified Purchaser]

Considering buying all of the Blueprints stuff. Like the scalability. A bit hard to see the detail at normal one sheet per page scale, though. For the price of one hardback supplement, you could have all the blueprints/megadungeons from 0one. Not a bad deal, if you like to run site-based adventures.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Scalability, huge scope, quality of the map<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Could have been a bit clearer at the "zoomed out" size.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>

The Amazing One Sheet Dungeon
Publisher: Basic Action Games
by Patrick T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/11/2005 00:00:00

Ran this as a quickie game one night when I needed a map. Ended up serving for nearly two game sessions, and I could have stretched it a bit further if I had wanted to. My players liked the idea, and thought the old school map was neat. Overall, quite useful for such a small and cheap product.

I didn't use the suggested "adventure" (a few slapdash stats, really), instead substituting my own monsters and so forth. Still, the map itself was the main thing. <br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Neat little map, cheap.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: The adventure supplied wasn't so hot, but hey, who cares? <br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>

A neat product. Sean K. Reynolds writes good stuff, and this is no exception. Mildly interesting, but nothing particularly earthshaking here. Most good players have already thought of most of this stuff, and the rest is a little "foofy" for my taste. Not a bad read. Bought it to make myself feel less like a munchkin after reading (and loving) Goodman Games' Warrior's Strategy Guide.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Good ideas to rehabilitate habitual hack/slashers, new gamers.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Wastes pages of some pretty inconsequential stuff.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Acceptable<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>

Fairly well done, with some spooky atmospherics. However, I was left strangely unfulfilled. I had the nagging idea that I could come up with something just as good or better conceptually in the course of an afternoon of game planning. All that I would lack would be the artistic renderings of the creatures. Still, if you're looking for a quick alternate version of the non-OGL Illithids, I suppose you could do worse.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Art was spooky, seemed well done.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Not terribly inspired. Power Gamer's 3.5 Warrior Strategy Guide
Publisher: Goodman Games
by Patrick T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/09/2005 00:00:00

Great product. This one gives you the nuts and bolts to understand what tactics yeild the most combat power, and how competing theories of the "best way to kick butt" in the D20 game stack up. All munchkinizing aside, this book is a great resource for players looking to solidify their understanding of the tactical aspects of the game. The archetypes discussed can really clarify the purpose and focus of various characters. If you're trying to build a Heavy Infantry fighter, but spending feats more appropriate for a Skirmisher, you'll be less effective than the guy who knows what he needs to buy right off the bat.

Many people dismiss powergamers as perpetual 13-year-olds who haven't grasped the subtlety of roleplaying and staying in character. To some extent, this is true, but there is nothing in the pages of this book that prevents brilliant speeches, clever interplay with NPCs, or beautifully thought out character backstories. All this book does is allow that same character to have a big "stick" to back up his roleplaying chops when honeyed words won't do the job. What's wrong with that?

Big kudos to Goodman games. This book has a lot of wisdom to impart, and does it clearly, gracefully, and with a great sense of humor<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Great info, humerous comments, fully elucidated with tables galore! Arms and Armor of the Stone Age
Publisher: Bloodstone Press
by Patrick T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/05/2005 00:00:00

Well, for the cost, I can't complain much. I did find a significant number of editorial oversights, spelling errors, and so forth. Also, I wasn't knocked over with the quality of the art. I think it looks anywhere from bland to just poor. Also, I found that this was a more Broze Age supplement than really a Stone Age one. I was thinking "Quest for Fire" more than "Barbarians of the Greek/Egyptian times", but that's okay. A few things: no rules for breakage/wear when using bone/stone/bronze/wooden implements, no "downside" to these inferior technologies in terms of damage, and no "really" barbaric weapons or tools.

It was an interesting effort, and there are a few useful weapons and armor types in here, but overall, I would have preferred a more in-depth and well sorted product, even had it cost significantly more to download<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Cheap, a few neat items<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Bad art, poor illustrations, incomplete vision of the topic, not exactly what it advertises<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Disappointing<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>

Dark Sun Campaign Setting (Expanded and Revised Edition) (2e)
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast
by Patrick T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 10/29/2004 00:00:00

I was always interested in this campaign setting, but never got a chance to play in it. I was interested to see what it would look like, and how different it would be from the d20 stuff I've become familiar with. Also, I wanted to see how the pdf version of this old TSR product might look. Well...I realized quickly the depth of my being spoiled with the modern layouts and art-heavy formats. This isn't the flashy, glossy, art on most every page product that you'll see from Wizards. Yes, there's a nice swirl pattern of sand on the borders, but if you're looking for a big storehouse art to throw down on the gaming table, look elsewhere. I've only scratched the surface of reading through the text, but it seems as if this edition is as much a "here's what's been happening in all our products and novels" product as a simple introduction to the Dark Sun world. I can't comment on that too closely as of yet, but I don't quite think that I'll be able to get what I was looking for out of this product.

In terms of the transfer, it's well set-up and bookmarked. I found it easy to go from topic to topic.

Overall, I think this product was likely a very good one for its time, but it seems dated to me now. I doubt that it'll be worth my time to adapt this product for a new 3.5 game. Still and all, it makes me appreciate the fact that even the smallest pdf publishers are putting out products that have more "chrome" than the stuff we used to be amazed by. <br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Well transferred, pdf fully bookmarked<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: No art to speak of, no good maps that I could find. Dragon's Hoard: Lost Treasures
Publisher: Big Finger Games
by Patrick T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 10/27/2004 00:00:00

As the other comments indicate, this is a great little pdf. Everything you might need to run a dragon is here, and there's even a nice little battle sheet made up for the big guy. I wasn't planning on running a red dragon lair any time soon, but now, I'll have to fit it in somehow. The treasure is well thought out and unique, as well. All a DM has to do is find appropriate minions for the dragon and draw out a map of some sort. I suppose I could grouse about the fact that these things aren't done, but for the price, I can't really say much. Besides, leaving these things undone makes the lair easier to tailor once it's put into play and more world-neutral. Overall, I'm impressed. The biggest obstacle to running dragons anymore is the legwork involved, especially as the age categories climb. With that done for you, it's hard to make an excuse.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Clarity, good layout, useful material, imaginitive treasures with backstories<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: My only dislike is that there aren't more products from these guys. e-Adventure Tiles: Landshark Tunnels
Publisher: SkeletonKey Games
by Patrick T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 10/05/2004 00:00:00

These e-Adventure tiles are very handsome, and they print out just as nicely as they look on the screen. This cannot be said of all similar products you will see on the net. As with some others who end up here at rpgnow.com, I'm driven by a bargain. Don't mistake some of the other products that might be cheaper, unit for unit, than these tiles from Skeleton Key Games.

In terms of utility, these can be useful either by themselves, just for staging for tabletop gaming when the action goes underground, or can be combined with other tile sets from Skeleton Key to create a miniature-scale dungeon.

These products require some work on the part of the buyer. This should be noted. At the least, you will need a good quality printer and a steady hand with the scissors. In order to really bring out a fully-laid-out dungeon, you'll need a bit of "craft time". This, however can create much the same effect as the expensive and vaunted Dwarven Forge dungeons with nothing more than some cardstock and some backing material such as cardboard or poster board. <br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Skeleton Key products are well presented, easy to access, and print well. The artwork is strong, and the modular nature of these products makes them re-usable for years, over many sorts of gaming situations.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Only the possibly addictive nature of accessories like this can be counted against this product<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

Adventure Maps 1.0
Publisher: SkeletonKey Games
by Patrick T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 10/05/2004 00:00:00

Though some other reviews of this product are less than glowing, I think that's more because people misunderstood what they were getting. This product is designed to create a small-scale (not for direct miniature movement) maps. I feel that, for this purpose, you get a great deal for the paltry single dollar you pay. What other product anywhere near this price could create multiple HUGE dungeon layouts. Without any repetition of map segments, I think you could get at least three large and variegated maps. A whole mini-campaign could be run from these maps. To me, that's keen.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Can't think of much I don't like. Great deal, lots of possiblities for adventure, looks good and is easy to use.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: If there's anything to dislike, it's that, considering the questionable reception it's got, you're unlikely to see another Adventure Map product. DOLLAR DUNGEON$-DOJO
Publisher: Mad Kaiser Games
by Patrick T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 10/05/2004 00:00:00

Mad Kaiser puts out fairly interesting products for very low prices. Considering this, you can't fault the minor downfalls in artwork that you might find. Overall, I like the idea of being able to throw in a dojo of some sort. The actual parts, unfortunately, don't all live up the same standard. The cedar-floor segments print very nicely, especially the big dragon insignia. The grass and cobblestones, however, leave me wanting. All in all, a useful if flawed product.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Lots of tiles, many of them good and inspiring. For the money, you get a good, useful product. being able to print out these dungeon floors could be handy for most games that use minatures and movement as a big part of their tactics (read: d20 games).

However, some of these floors don't print out so well. Especially, the rocky floor in hex pattern doesn't look good on paper. Knowing that, I'd still probably spend the paltry sum to get this one.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Cheap, useful, reusable.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Could be designed to print more clearly in some cases. <br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Acceptable<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>
