When the Sky Falls
Publisher: Malhavoc Press
by Brian C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/27/2008 13:02:11

I greatly enjoyed this book. It takes an unused topic (a meteor strike from outer space) and does some interesting and fun things with it.

The organization of the material in the book is well thought out. The discussion of the natural effects of a meteoric impact are kept separate from the magical effects. This allows DMs using the book to use only those parts that they want to. The game material in the book is only useful for a campaign which uses the premise the book is based upon, but that it understandable. Kierran Yanner (sp?) is a favorite of mine and I think his artwork fit the theme of the book well.

I was so happy with this book that I purchased the hardcopy after buying the PDF.

This was a great PDF. The idea is intriguing and easily added to any ongoing campaign, whether you have planar themes running or not. I'll certainly be looking at more of the Planar Factions PDFs and I may buy the whole bundle.

LIKED: The concept is very interesting and there was even a few new rules items thrown in with the descriptive background text. Also, the file was very easy to read on screen.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
En Ferreus Veritas: Rapier Combat
Publisher: Heyoka Studios
by Brian C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/20/2003 00:00:00

The highlights of this book are the descriptive sections, as each could provide a DM with a regional setting. In addition, the discussions of fencing and the terms used are very useful to any campaign that may include raipers. The rules sections (feats, spells, PC's, etc.) are a hit and miss collection. Some of the ideas are well thought out, while others could very easily be abused, due to their unbalanced nature. Overall, I am very pleased that I purchased this PDF and I will look for future products from Heyoka.

And I was lucky enough to win a free copy of Facades!

Interesting take on magic for D&D. I'm not sure I'd use it in game, but I enjoyed the read.

101 Collection
Publisher: Ronin Arts

Every GM should spend the money to get this collection. Each of the three titles is useful by itself, but when all three are combined they lend a natural feel to any campaign. Players will be excited about gaining a pair of boots, or finding a unique gem. Phil Reed has written a wonderful product that can be used throughout any game system.

Four-Color to Fantasy: Superhero Toolkit (Original 3.0 Version)
Publisher: EN Publishing
by Brian C. [Verified Purchaser]

An interesting attempt at d20 superheroes. I enjoyed reading the character creation methods, and the writes did a good job of balancing 1st level supers with 1st level characters. However, I've never felt that super heroes should be balanced with normal folks. That approach is what makes me not use this system. It's well written, and if you want balanced supers, I'd recommend it.

DOLLAR DUNGEON$-Ink Saver
Publisher: Mad Kaiser Games
by Brian C. [Verified Purchaser]

It does exactly what it sets out to do: provide people with a low cost, low ink alternative to battlemats. If you don't want to spend $25 on a mat, and only need a room here and there for a single combat, this will work great. Personally, I think I'll stick with the battlemat that I have.

Starbase Omega 3 Science Fiction Cardstock Figures

These aren't too bad. The art is of slightly better than average quality and there are a large number of figures. I would have prefered more aliens in the set though.

Construct Mechanus
Publisher: Ronin Arts
by Brian C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/08/2003 00:00:00

This is a weird supplement, and in my book weird is good! I plan on introduce the race of Mechanus into the next campaign I run. The rules may need a little tweaking by some DM's before they can be dropped in to a game, but for sheer idea mining, this is one of the best supplements I've bought. The inclusion of screen/print copies is an excellent choice, as I don't think my printer could do the artwork justice. It's a short product, but worth the price, but I still wanted it to be longer. Please continue this line Mr. Reed!
