Hostile Solo

I played it using Goggle Gemini Pro and Chatgpt to help move the game along. It did a great job, lots of interesting decisions and scenes for my simple corporate espionage mission that barely succeeded and with the team captured. (dice started out hot and then poof... nothing) I can't wait to start the Star Crew aspect in the Traveller setting and get my hands on my hard copy. I also plan on seeing what expansions they have as well. Here is my report on my first mission, it started out so well! https://rpggeek.com/thread/3336643/starting-an-ai-assisted-session-after-buying-it-on

Very happy with my purchase. The Task System and Character Gen suits my tastes now better than classic. Animal generation is great too. Still baffled as to why ability checks are so convoluted, can't I just roll <= my ability score can call it a day?

D&D Solo Adventure: The Death Knight's Squire (Fantasy Grounds)
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

Since I figured out my Fantasy Grounds Unity Kickstarter, I started looking around for what I could with it and found this product. I always wanted to like choose your own path type adventures but the ones I have played (or I could be just really bad at these things) always devolve into choose your own death or they are so restrictive that they lack any real choice. I played through this one and I was pleasantly surprised. I played a sneaky gnome thief and I was almost taken out early but made my save and pulled through. After some cautious play, great dice for me, and crap dice for them, I made it through to a win of sorts. It wasn't the winniest win but I made it through and accomplished my goal and got paid so a win enough for me! I liked the way the author tells you that due to the wide range of abilities 5e PCs have, sometimes you have just have to made your own call and think through what would happen. I like this approach quite a bit, too loose and you really don't have a product, too tight and you pretty much have a railroad and miss a large part of the 5e experience. As for replayability, it isn't really super great for that but if I randomly picked my new path and played a different PC like a fighter with no stealth capability, my experience will be much different for most of the adventure. Using Fantasy Grounds is a great way to do the choose your own mechanics, go to the right map, click on the right narrative, roll dice, and then when the situation calls for it, run through combat, and so on. If I had to do it manually (and you can, PDFs are available), it will take more time. So I bought the rest of his products and I am getting to start the 2nd adventure which has many sidequests and looks to be a larger and longer adventure. I am brushing up on my 5e rules knowledge (I am more of B/Xer which I think would be great for solo games) and I am looking forward to the new adventure. I was happy to read in the next adventure that I can take max HP at each level. I also have played some of the better known PC games and while I like them (love the spell effects), I prefer this for solo play. I will be using Fantasy Ground Classics for the next adventures but it worked fine with Fantasy Grounds Unity as far as I could tell.

Patrol - A Vietnam War Roleplaying Game

Even if you never want to play a historical Vietnam RPG, there is much to recommend here. The alignment system and how it effects how the various soldiers react to fatigue and stress is great. As things happen in the game, characters react differently to various events based on their outlook and how tired they are. It does encourage PC vs PC conflict which I am reluctant to use but I would certainly use it as a guide for NPC actions which seems very real for Vietnam conditions. I could see the increasing doubt mechanic applied to a bunch of rpg games of all types. Players can smoke and drink (or worse!) to help them manage their doubt. That alignment and doubt mechanic alone is worth the price of admission. The players are encouraged to write after action reports which they can write characters up for misconduct. Completely fitting the Vietnam time frame and military aspect. The turn tracking sequence and the action templates make things clear as to what is going on especially during combat.

This a great way to get things going. If you are referee or solo gamer, this will get things going in a fun way. Now all we need is a Azhanti High Lightning encounter generator to go with it.
