One of the best RPG products I have. They system it uses (Fate Accelerated) is so simple to learn, teach, and enjoy.

Where this really shines is impromptu gatherings, convention-style settings, and just less-focused meetups. Bring a pack of index cards and some dice and just play.

I'd order the Fantastic "expansion" at the same time as it adds to the longevity, variety, and overall random generation of characters and settings

*Can be paired with Deck of Fate for a diceless version

До этого были попытки играть в Fate, все не очень удачные. А этот инструмент фактически открыл нам фейт с новой стороны - быстрое создание персонажей, быстрые ваншоты.

(These comments apply to this product and to the "Fantastic" add-on.) I have now tried this product out twice: once to introduce a father and daughter as new players to the system, and once at a convention where around seven people wanted to play, some experienced with Fate. For the first group I threw together a simple battle using these cards, justified as part of an arena scenario. We stopped after the battle, but I later saw the father GMing a Fate session of his own. At the convention, we put together a scene where the heroes were being menaced by an evil priest and his Cage of Blood, as I tried to explain the system and use the cards to help people understand their characters. The players took to it quickly; the turning point came when the orc character decided he was going to "interrogate the lute" and spend a fate point to declare that it was capable of speech. We ended up putting on a fantasy death metal concert that led to a demon appearing in the mosh pit while our imp gadgeteer used a remarkably effective prince disguise to perform with the evil lute.

In other words, this product let my groups put together some fun little scenarios on the fly and introduce new players to the system easily. My only regret here is that I should have bought the actual printed cards, rather than trying to save by doing print-and-play (which ended up being more trouble than the savings were worth).

As a character creation system, it's brilliant. There are 20 ways to combine 6 approaches taken 3 at a time (without repetition and order doesn't matter). That makes a convenient deck size. The system ensures that all approaches are in the 0-3 range, that there'll be variety in the approaches, and that each character has 3 aspects and 3 stunts. Doling out cards ensures that we'll have a mix of character types.

The character system also strikes a good middle ground between other potential methods for creating one-shot characters. It's less time-consuming and less daunting than having players make up characters from scratch. It gives players some say in their characters instead of handing them pre-made characters.

I've started making custom character decks for various settings. I can fit the necessary information into a business card size. I can make a custom deck with two sheets of business card printer stock.

The situation generator has some decent variety, but not all cards are suitable for all audiences. I take some cards out ahead of time, depending on who'll be playing. For example, I knew that a certain father/daughter pair of players wouldn't want to see the "Currently naked" card come up.

I added some goal cards. Some players said they were at a loss about what to do or they had trouble recognizing when the game was over. A goal card gave them something they could focus on and run with, without feeling railroaded. It helped keep the action crisp and created a recognizable ending.

I'm a huge fan of oracles and random generators like this. Add on to the top of it some easy to understand FAE Aspects, Stunts, and Approaches all on one card, and you get a fantastic little deck that packs a big punch.

I plan to use this deck to introduce some traditional gamers to Fate. It should go fantastically.

We love this quick and easy game. This will be a mainstay for local game days and Games on Demand at conventions. I hope more comes out soon.

Running this with 2 first time fate players and one experienced player, this proved to be a great introduction to the fate system. Getting people to stop laughing held things up more than learning the system. Picking familiar "classes" generated stats for them, and providing a thematic stunt for each gave them interesting toys to play with, but avoiding option paralysis of having things wide open. Picking up the rest of the mechanics from there was fairly simple, particularly since it uses the 6 fate accelerated approaches. I think in our game every approach got used but careful, but that one's omission was mostly just a side effect of teleporting naked into an arena just as the beasts were released. Only one person had a 3 in anything, most people had several 2s and stunts that made them better, so there wasn't much issue of spamming one aspect. Except for the con-man's compulsive clever lying, but again, that was unique to the situation and really helped make the scene dramatic.

Aside from the aid in helping new players, this also offered a good experience to explore and RP a new character quickly, not having a large backstory to try and remain consistent with. My players commented on how enjoyable it was to try and fit full character exploration into just an hour or two. After one session, everyone involved asked me to bring it to fill in time before or after existing campaigns.

Game ran about 2 hours, although I think it was a little slower due to getting new players up to speed with the system and getting use to how open ended decision making is in fate.
