I ran myself through this adventure, trusting that with my several epochs' worth of experience as a DM, I would be able to enforce some degree of reasonable decision making and not just give myself everything. Even with a fair degree of self-inflicted "You can't do that!", I had to be a bit lenient with multiple attempts and hitting the reset button.
Some of these encounters are REALLY hard for a single level-1 character!
Due to the fifth edition focus on bounded accuracy and economy of action, any 1-on-1 fights against inferior opponents are likely to turn out in the player's favor, with some allowance for bad luck. However, the 3-against-1 fights (there are two of them) can QUICKLY turn from threatening to deadly. The one encounter with 3 kobolds – stinkin' little kobolds! – took me seven attempts to pass, with a monk. (Full disclosure: since the stat blocks in this module are [intentionally?] incomplete, I didn't realize kobolds suffer from sunlight sensitivity until attempt #6!! Have all your core rulebooks handy, adventurers!)
The final encounter is potentially very difficult to emerge from victorious, but it's definitely possible. I think it also bears mentioning (since the module itself doesn't), losing the fight is not necessarily fatal! Again: consult your core rulebooks, players! :)
Overall, I am VERY happy to have discovered this module. I think it could use a little more polish and/or expansion, but considering it's FREE, it's definitely worth the price of admission. I'm eager to check out the rest of the Filbar 5th edition titles, especially the FVS line.
