Atomic Highway - Post Apocalyptic Roleplaying
Publisher: Gallant Knight Games

For once the best things in life are free. This is THE game of post apocalyptic mayhem capturing the feel of the old movies 100%. The V6 game system is simple to learn and versatile enough to use in other settings as well if you wish and also lends itself to easily house rule although for those who wish to go for a Gamma World-esque high sci-fi, very wierd mutant world this might not be the thing. Good work and a pleasure to play.

P.S I wonder how it will work with zombies.

Only a partial product. If it had been advertised as such it would probably recieve a 4. The full product (if it exists) might be worth looking into.

Tried these despite being no fan of paper miniatures since metal/plastic western miniatures are hard to get hold of. I must say they at least partially changed my mind. They are clearly drawn, to scale and the cartoony style fits my Deadlands games nicely. I very much liked the fact that they were designed to be cut out without leaving a big white background. I hope there will be additions to this series and if I may, I would like to request indians, mountain men and some more characters with rifles. Overall a job well done and as far as I have seen the best western paper miniatures around.

Weapon Cards

I liked these and my players liked them and we don't even play the d20 system. The artwork is OK being diverse and generic enough to be able to represent almost any weapon and at the same time friendly enough towards printing economy even with everything turned on. The one thing I am missing is to have the weapon stats being form fillable in the PDF so my lousy handwriting didn't spoil the experience for the user. For only one dollar I can recommend these to almost anyone regardless of system. We use them for Conan, Runequest and Talislanta. Hopefully armor cards aren't far away.

Valherjar: The Chosen Slain Core Rulebook
Publisher: Game Monkey Press
by Hans H. [Verified Purchaser]

I got this as part of the Haiti bundle and downloaded it mostly out of curiosity but this is some great work. A fresh approach both rule-wise and setting wise. You play slain warriors taken from Valhalla and sent on special missions to earth.

The AoR system takes a new twist on the balance between precision and speed. Everybody rolls three dice simultaneously and groups them into two groups, one for speed and one for precision, so basically initiative, skill and effect is made as one roll. This adds a tactical element, should I go first or gamble the other guy misses and focus on hitting. This is not used only during combat as the speed element can add drama to other rolls. Will I manage to sneak in/pick the lock before the guard appears, etc?

d20 conversion rules are included in the book as well as d20 monster stats.

LIKED: The concept. The AoR system, a fresh approach. It's a multi setting system, we've played modern times, medieval times, WW2, WW1 and Victorian era so far.

DISLIKED: Using the AoR system for multiple actions or multi user actions is a bit awkward. Not really a dislike but there is a learning curve when moving from traditional initiative roll, skill roll, effect roll which can throw some people off.

QUALITY: Excellent, you get both the regular and print friendly versions of the game. 233 pages in the normal book with decent b&w art and well laid out. A good table of contents in its printed form but I miss a clickable PDF index.

VALUE: Very Satisfied and looking forward to seeing more products in this line. BTW the free adventure Candy From a Stranger available from their homepage is good as well.

An absolutely essential piece of equipment for the tired GM for keeping the mood during the late hour playing sessions. I love this book and my players too even if they don't know it's not me and my imagination. Well laid out, well written and the cards are great for keeping around and not taking up space with another book. It's relatively printer friendly as well.

'45 - Psychobilly Retropocalypse
Publisher: Postmortem Studios

This is a truly great game and very unique in it's style.

Layout The book begins with setting information, including plot hooks for each one (great idea!), a list of sample characters and information on the world and the setting background. I like this because you get in the mood of the setting before you are presented by the rules. The artwork also enhances the feel for the setting in a great way without wasting all of your printer ink.

Rules It is powered by the rules-light Xpress engine which is very different from other games I've played but once you get a hang of it, it works very well for this setting allowing for fast and fun games which don't get bogged down by rules or excessive die rolls. Basically you roll a number of (d6 only) dice equal to the stat the skill is connected to and have a target number based on your skill level and the number of successes determines how well you do. A minor complaint here is that the example skills were directly copied from the core rules which lead to many of them being computer related and otherwise not setting appropriate. A setting specific example list would have been better as well as showing what attribute the different skills connect to. This took me about 15 minutes to do myself so it's no big deal. The same applies to merits and flaws which could have used a few more examples and clarification.

Playing Great fun, hilarious, fast and over the top. My players wanted the game a bit more dark and gritty but the only thing I had to change was the tone of my voice when describing things. It borrows from the whole 50's genre so there is no limitation on the adventure plots. Battle nazis one day, martians the next and giant mutant ants in the afternoon.

Overall Already one of my favorite games. Fast, easy to play, a lot of variety and very different. As a bonus it also made me discover some truly great music when I got some Psychobilly for mood music when playing. I rate this game a five out of five and can recommend it to everyone.

Propz: Minute Dungeon - Plaster & Wood
Publisher: Arid Hills Gaming
by Hans H. [Verified Purchaser]

When reviewing the minute dungeon I made a wish list of improvements I wanted and this is basically the answer to that. Excellent job and it shows Arid Hills really listens to their customers. Basically it is the same product, so check out that review ,but as I said improved. For example, one small but noticable improvement over the minute dungeon is that the wall texture now goes a bit down on the tabs so if you miss a bit when cutting or glueing you don't get any annoying "white spots". Looking forward to your future releases. Great product for all unless you absolutely need walls with a certain thickness.

I really liked this product. It looks good and building is really easy. The parts fit together nicely and the details are well made. So far I've built the stone stairs, the pool and the altars. There were no problems with the models themselves but one thing to think about is paper thickness since a lot of parts use double folded paper. Using cardstock here makes the models hard to fold and work with, and using standard 80g paper could make parts flimsy. After some experimenting (isn't pdf great) I used different paper for different parts of the same model which gave a great result. Overall a great buy.

I love these. They are easy to build and don't require special cardstock to build so I can just whip out a few corridors as I need them from the printer. Now that the annoying logo on the floor tile is fixed I really don't have any complaints at all. Some people may have an objection that the walls don't have a "thickness" but since I never build whole dungeons I don't have that problem.

Pros: Easy to build, my record is a corridor in _ 5 minutes (during play) Inexpensive Works with ordinary printer paper, no need for cardstock. Easily customizable, you can build small rooms and non standard length corridors w.o too much hassle.

Cons: None really but see my wishlist below.

Wishlist: I'd like to have the various corridors without doors. Since there is an optional door texture which you can add afterwards I'd like to see the corridors w.o doors so I can add them where I want since I don't always have doors at the end of the hallway. An alternative would be a separate wall texture to cover the doors I don't need.

Different textured corridors and floor. Wood, Plaster, Drapes etc. The models are there and at that price I'd buy the re-textured ones right away.

Small rooms: 45, 36 etc.
