Found this item deeply disappointing. Images are of far too low resolution to be used in either VTT or printed as a physical battle map.

Good set of train cars that can be strung together for VTT. Set to 10' wide, the cars line up well with the tracks on the station map from same publisher.

This is a nice set of train cars, engine, coal car and brake car (caboose). It includes really nice carpeting, chairs, water closets, woodwork and other details. If we take the stated premise that the squares represent 5 feet, then these cars are 20 feet wide and some as much as 170 feet long.

But, if you check on the sizes of actual USA train cars, modern or from the 1880s, they tend to be 8-11 feet wide and up to 86 feet long. One might ask, "why?" One answer for the width is "tunnels." The train cars were made to go through the tunnels dug through mountains and those accommodated about 11 feet wide cars. Load gauges are the other reason. According to the wiki on Loading gauges, "The old standard North American passenger railcar is 10 ft 6 in (3.20 m) wide by 14 ft 6 in (4.42 m) high and measures ... 86 ft 0 in (26.21 m) over coupler pulling faces ..."

Yes, in a fantasy 1880s setting, the trains can be as big as you want and these are just fine. If you are running something history-based, these should probably be listed as 1 square = 2.5 feet. Or, I could print these at half size to make them proper scale in the PDF. That would make the trains come in at about the right sizes for real trains of the era.

For the scale issue, I gave it 4 stars. Other than that, it is a really nice set!

I appreciate the review. Regarding the scale, yes, the scale given is too big, but the maps are designed for miniatures use, which require more room to move around than a true representative scale can accommodate. The scale was set deliberately too large for this reason.
