A quirky little system, thoroughly enjoyable once you take the time to learn it. The character creation is vaguely reminiscent of thesystem used in games like BESM, though less complex. Definitely a must have for classic cartoon fans and gamers alike.

Good

This game has a great review of the shows I grew up with. The author's doubtlessly love the genre as many kids did during the eighties.

The rules are pretty clean and clear. Once you get going, they are straight-forward.

Several settings are included in the book and some are quite imaginative.

Bad

Character creation is rough . . . really rough. I gave up making a Transformer-style character. Way too many pages flips are needed to make a hero.

The best game about 1980s comics of all genres in the market, from GI Joe, Transformers to Jem and Hello Kitty, they have it all. Many settings are provided in detail, plus a complete He-Man-like sourcebook making up 50% of the volume. Art is average to above-average, but content is original, fast and fun. The Metal Wars Transformers-like supplement is even better.

Yes Mr Moreau, there are other systems that can handle hero action. But this game is not about that. Its about capturing the feel and the excitement of the early 80's adventure cartoon series.Anything you could dream up.From Thundarr the Barbarian all the way back to earlier cartoons such as Charlie chan and the Clan. It's a fluid and intuitive system for just that.I would suggest you actually BUY the product and READ it before commiting to such slander. And if you don't like it..well...that ok...go back to playing HERO system or whatever strikes your fancy. And i know Charlie chan was from the 70's but i loooved that cartoon

I think CAH is a great game for playing CARTOON action adventures. The system is fast and easy to learn, and there is a wealth of campaign ideas and adventure seeds provided in the book. Artwork was sometimes uneven, but overall it had the 80's cartoon feel to all of it. Lots of fun to play, and at $12.50 it's a great buy!

Mr. Moreau obviously didn't purchase or read Cartoon Action Hour when he wrote his review. For one thing, the game isn't abotu action heros, but action cartoons. There is a difference. There is definitely a place for this game, as it seeks to mimic the classic 80's style action/adventure cartoons, something that many other systems could do, but aren't necessarily geared towards. I've used the game to run a cartoon style superhero game, and it worked perfectly for my needs. This is a great product, and worth every penny I paid for it

I totally disagree with the other review (if you can call someone who probably didn't buy the product complaining about it a review). The system is based around D12 with modifiers and offers something new to the roleplaying community.

The system allows you to emulate those old 80s cartoons. Gaming sessions are themed like Episodes and the purpose is to roleplay rather than the D20 level up/kill monsters disease.

Characters buy stats as well as abilities, equipment and skills. With the main rulebook you can play an unlimited number of settings including a Master of the Universe-esque game and Transformers.

What does this system offer over the zillion and one competitors of generic universe games? Its geared to allow to run adventures in the cartoon style of play. It comes with a pretty good campaign, Warriors of the Cosmo (Heman) and for $12.50 its a bargain!.

I bought the 1st edition of this game and was very impressed. As a long time HERO fan I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was worth the money. Good for beginners but not lacking in depth.

An excellent system. Generic enough to handle all those great 80s cartoons, but not near as complicated as some generic systems out there.

If you like cartoons from the 80s, you will definitely like this game. It uses a relatively simplistic dice mechanic and resolution system. It is very effective for fast game play. The design of the characters are very open-ended. This means that players can create almost anything they want, but it requires heavy GM involvement in the character design process to keep characters within the game parameters. The powers are general and tend more towards things would see in action cartoons. They definitely hit their goal with this product.

This is a well put together book, and the authors care about their subject. Although parts of it may look like they've been borrowed from Fudge, the game and system is original enough to not notice. Although meant for 1980's style cartoons, this could easily emulate any cartoon or anime series. I liked this game so much, I bought a copy I saw in the shops so I could enjoy it again.

This game rules. It's funner than Hell. If you ever wanted to play Transformers, GI Joe or Thundercats, this is the game for you. The mechanic is flexible enough to cover everything from He-Man to Robocop. It's a great read, too, so even if you don't want to play it, pick it up just to flip through it. It's fun. You'll be glad you did.
