It's just incredible how much details and flexibility this one campaign has. For me, as a newbei DM, it's a blast!

A great story. Well written. The layout is superb. User friendly. As a DM it is easy to navigate and information is clear and concise. I will be returning to it time and time again. Will need to save some pennies for other titles in the range. I'm thinking it would be great to build up a library for dropping into adventures and campaigns in the future. If you haven't already, buy this product. Like NOW!

My players very much enjoyed starting out their characters in this adventure. We were all learning Dungeons and Dragons, me as a DM, them as almost complete newbies. This adventure kept me from accidently killing everyone off on our first adventure. :)

A great introductory campaign for new players that can be easily completed in one sitting. We played it with three level 1 characters using Hook 3 which turned into a rework / revised version of Hook 2 when one of the characters died in the first encounter. Ooops.... Turned out to be a good lesson for new players that actions have consequences.

All in all, everyone had a great time, definitely worth the few sheckles.

I absolutely loved running this campaign! I'm relatively new to D&D and got roped into being the DM because I managed to talk a few friends into trying D&D without any of us knowing how to play. We've been playing around 2 months now and have been roping in more people as I go along so I ran this session with my other half to introduce my brother and his fiancée to the game. It went really well! Really easy to run, I made some cool maps to use in roll20 based on the ones provided and the whole thing flowed easily. The characters enjoyed interacting with the Kenku (although it was a bit hard to role play them easily as a DM without flicking back to my dialogue prompts) and there was just the right balance of combat encounters, role play and getting them eased in to the skill checks and other things you can do. Great work!

I ran this adventure for my very first time as a DM, with a party of Level 1 players. I think it speaks very well of the adventure that I was never confused or frustrated while running it, despite being very inexperienced.

From a DM perspective, the adventure is well written and easy to follow, with clever colour-coded boxes, maps and keys that explain everything you need to know about each encounter and location. I've read some others which bury this information in the text, and it was really refreshing to see these callouts with all the essential information. Similarly, the suggestions provided for how to insert the adventure naturally into your own campaign were appreciated - I ended up adapting one of these and it went over very well.

The feedback I received from the players was that they found the adventure enjoyable and interesting - they particularly weren't expecting the kenku, which they thought were satisfyingly weird and unsettling. I had great fun as the DM parroting their own dialogue back at them, too, and luring them into traps. The party very nearly met their deaths at the hands of the harpy, and they still laugh over their ham-fisted attempt to steal from her.

Overall, I thought this was an extremely well done intro to D&D 5e. I will certainly be trying out more of Dan's works in future.

THey did a good job of labeling the map with icons so you can find everything right way. They thought out what happens if creature were unware. There was enough touches of detail (that extra something) that my players will remember it and keep refering to it. The only thing is the harpery's luring song reaches a huge distance since it auditor. It can easily effect the Kenku in the adjacent area if not the whole map. Since it based on hearing and the harpy couldn't see the party or the kenku until they reached her it caused a lot of confusion (good confusion), but that was never addressed. They explained how both enemies viewed the other which made resolving the situation easy.

I would recommend the adventure.

This is the first adventure I ran for my 5th edition campaign and the first one in a homebrew world that I had just created. With a few tweaks to the adventure background for the site featured in the adventure, it made for a great springboard into my campaign setting with a storyline that persists even now. As an introductory adventure, this is a great departure from usual first-level fodder of "fight the kobolds or goblins and save the town". The use of kenku in this adventure made for some nice surprises for the group of veteran D&D players who were expecting the same old thing. Like other adventures by this publisher, it includes well-detailed areas with icons on the map keyed to specific types of encounters in a given area (combat, puzzle, treasure, clue) that makes it quick and easy to run with little prep work other than reading. Monster statistics are referenced by page number and tactics and roleplaying notes for running the kenku are included, making an underappreciated D&D monster a unique type of foe with their own mannerisms.

Great starter adventure for your group!

Great adventure, and most important, great to DM!

Bandit's Nest is exactly what it says on the first page, a DnD 5e adventure to go from 1st to 2nd level. That being said, it is a great introduction to the basic elements of DND for new players, as well as a good way to start an adventure off for old hands. I am a big fan of Dan Coleman's works (found him through Kickstarter) because his adventures are written to be fun for both players as well as DMs alike. There are player-safe maps included in the download, which are a huge time saver. We can go on about those, but onto the adventure first.

The adventure itself is very well organized, starting with tips, general background, and the major story beats/ideas of the adventure. It is a small gesture that goes a long way for the DM's planning. Basically, you can read through the adventure 2 times and be pretty well prepped to run it. I reskinned the Kenku as dragon-modified cultists from Horde of the Dragon Queen (thus reworking the bland cultists from HotDQ to these variety as well as dragon-human hybrids), and used this as a lead in to give the PCs a reason to go to Greenest in the first place. But that's the best part of this adventure and Dan Coleman's stuff -- it is designed to be plug-n-playable as needed, and ultimately ended up making my own adventure better! [Note : If Dan wants to tackle re-doing HotDQ, I will pledge my money to that in a heart beat... that is a train wreck of an adventure compared to this].

Maps are clear, simple, and effective at a glance. Encounters are organized, varied, and easy to implement. Coleman even adds Role-Playing tips to add to the effect for DMs who love to act out for their players. Additionally, he has enough foresight and planning to account generally for the most likely outcomes of the adventure, meaning as a DM I do not have to improvise complicated mechanics on the fly while being unaware of their repercussions. I get to use my improv skills elsewhere. Finally, just about every Skill has at least one use in the adventure. That is a personal pet peeve of mine when DM's don't do it -- so good on Coleman for getting that right!

In short, this simple adventure is filled with ideas. I have stolen his Kenku (and his descriptions of their mannerisms) for my own games. After I ran this adventure, I refer back to it often for scenes to steal. It is a great reference.

DM'ed the adventure more or less as written for one of my groups, a bunch of noobs, for three of the five players this was their first chance to play any RPG. The guys had no idea what the kenku were, which was a bonus, they were suitably spooked particularly as I unleashed an axe beak on them in the first encounter. It didn't help that the axe beak took down the cleric in a matter of seconds.

The adventure took us a session and a half to play through, and with some tough fights along the way. In particular the final encounter with Chaza and his friends went awry very quickly and resulted in multiple ko's for the players- they got through it but only just and for a short while it looked like a possible TPK.

I made a little more of the hidden treasure in the well, adding a single encounter in from R&D Adventures- Forgotten Tomb, I felt the players deserved a bit more in the way of a reward.

In summary half-a-dozen well thought out encounters, some nice NPCs to mess with the players heads (and hit point totals), and a convincing story- perhaps a little familiar but the genre demands. After playing this module I went back and purchased all of the other Dungeons on Demand. I'm going to run this gang of adventurers through all of them if I can, you can follow our adventures here-

A well-written low-level adventure with all the tools provided I expect from a digital adventure product (ie - player-facing maps, and such). Definitely something you should throw a few bucks at!
