Fighting Ships is not a bad book, if you need mega ton warships for color, or a do it yourself spaceship combat game based in the Traveller universe. Nice art work, what there is, but really for the RPG player it’s a waste.

In true MegaTraveller tradition, this book is massive in scope. The authors set out to define every ship in the post-rebellion era without placing too much emphasis on ships of any one faction. In truth, these are all Imperium ships painted with the faction of the rebellion. Strangely, there are no data write-ups for Aslan-owned ships. Also, the authors have arbitrarily picked the most "interesting" ships and chosen to give full stats on only those (pictures, charts and more data). The ship illustrations seemed rather box-like and, with the exception of the escort class, look kind of unrealistic or just plain silly. Despite what others may say about this volume, it is an invaluable reference for the referee using the MegaTraveller (or any other) universe. I highly recommend it to all players of Traveller and most especially to those in the TNE and T4 camps. One way to make a better list of ships is to get a copy of Fire, Fusion and Steel. I just took one point off because I thought that the drawings could have been a little better

The price makes this a good buy... it's not practical since these aren't ships your character's are going to fly or fight.

It does provide some information on naval battle groups - but if you're looking for that I'd recommend the excellent Traveller's Aide Supplement on Fighting Ships of the Imperium. Not only does it cover the important parts, it explains the theory behind constructing a warship - and provides examples that could be used in game.<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: This is fun for the same reason the original Deities and Demi-gods was fun - stat porn.
