One of the first Kickstarters that I had backed almost ten years ago. Fat Dragon Games has continued to produce amazing terrain and ttrpg accessories and while currently the big focus is on 3d printing, something must be said for papercrafting. There's a great sense of pride and accomplishment in putting together a project like this, and being able to bond with my teenage son about the castles, caverns, and even a dwarven airship has been amazing. Hall of the Mountain King is what brought me and later my son into the crafting aspect of ttrpgs and I hope to maybe one day see another project launched by FDG in the future! Thank you Tom!

I agree with Chris's review in almost every regard. It's a good solid set, if a little skimpy in terms of contents.

There's one thing I would change in his review - the apparent lack of walls. Chris is correct that there's no plain stone wall piece included in the set. I bought the set anyway, with that understanding. What I found, however, is that you can make a decent (if plain and unadorned) wall out of the floor tile that comes with it by playing with the layers. If you go to the layers menu and click everything off, and then click on "gridless image," you'll get a "wall" nearly 8 inches high and 8 inches wide. It seems unlikely that such a large surface in the Mountain King's hall would go uncarved(!), but it'll work.

I didn't give the set 5 stars because: 1) it didn't include a high wall (with a layer or two of different carved patterns). 2) the dais and throne were totally underwhelming and out of proportion to the hall. At the very least, the dais should have had several levels going up - I'll probably try to improvise something like that eventually. 3) the hall feels a little too empty - some more items would have added a lot - some tables and benches, maybe, or ornate lanterns in addition to the braziers, maybe a fountain or a pipe organ or some statuary or a balcony or a grand staircase....see where I'm going with this?

Matt

Like all of Fat Dragon’s 3D terrain sets, “Halls of the Mountain King” features beautiful artwork that will really make your miniatures-scale battle scenes pop. In this case, however, the word “halls” in the title might be slightly misleading. In fact, you get some great dressing for something like an “audience hall,” and indeed the props will put you in mind of the great throne room in Gauntlgrym if you’ve read those novels. But you cannot construct “halls” in the sense of “corridors” with this product, because it doesn’t include walls (except for flanking pieces integrating the large statue into standard-sized E-Z Lock walls. You’ll need additional sets if you want to build a full scene. The set includes exactly what the product description states, so know what you’re getting before you buy. It’s definitely a worthwhile purchase if you’re into paper modeling for your tabletop.

This set is outstanding... Creates the columned halls often referenced in Dwarven lore...

The artwork is amazing, the props are well thought out.

Love the giant statue, The gong is inspired. but I wish there was alternate floor tiles, the carved floor is very busy, perhaps a mod where every other quad is carved....

As always, Fat Dragon Games delivers a very high-quality product that will enhance your tabletop gaming sessions. I really like the new floor tile artwork, and have already starting printing lots of them to make new temples and dungeons.

This set also includes three new pieces I've been wishing for: a throne, a gong, and some giant pillars. I'm especially excited about using the pillars as cover for an upcoming encounter I'm planning. The stand-alone banners and GIGANTIC door are also really nice additions to the line. I can't wait for my players to see this set!

Halls Of The Mountain King:

Nice graphics, But after viewing all the contents, was somewhat disappointed in total contents. Was hoping there would be more content, would like to have seen some walls, and even some smaller doors, maybe a dias of some sort, Just seemed like it was missing something. As Stated as per usual the Graphics are excellent.
