Expedition to Chult: Trouble in Greyharbor
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

Solid little adventure that can be used as an alternative start to Tomb of Annihilation. It pairs well with another adventure "The Brazen Pegasus" as a continuation of this adventure and the party's travels to Chult. This content is easily worth the $1 price, as our group got two sessions worth of content out of it.

The Gacha Box
Publisher: SailorCat
by Toby W. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/19/2022 18:47:57

This product is mostly a D1000 table of mundane items, with a handful of magic items. Uniquely, there is an online dice-roller app included that will choose an item for you randomly.

Some thoughts: • The idea is creative. • That there is a floating magic sentient slot machine is very Gonzo, and it probably wont fit with most fantasy settings.
• Ignoring the box itself, it could function perfectly well as a D1000 random loot table.
• Among the hundreds of random mundane items there are a few interesting and unique magic items.
• There is a loyalty-card system (like for Subway sandwiches) where if you play the slot machine 5 times you get a sixth pull free. Very strange, but humorous and novel.

Conclusion: There are so many random item generators out there, many available for free, $1-2, or pay-what-you-want. It would be hard to recommend this product for $4.99. Its most appealing qualities are the novelty of the concept and the online card generator (if you're playing in front of a computer).

Deck of Many Bones
Publisher: SailorCat
by Toby W. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/19/2022 18:43:56

Description:
Like the Deck of Many Things, but with only good results and all cards relate to skeletons and bones. There is also an online dice-roller app included that will choose a card for you randomly.

Some info / thoughts: • This might not be a negative for your campaign, but the items, effects and names are very silly. I doubt many campaigns have the right tone to fully utilize this whimsicality.

The Good: • The idea is very creative. • There is a suggestion of in-world explanation for its existence. • The deck is a sentient item, and characterized as a person. • There are 60 cards – so it’s a much larger deck than the DoMT.

The Bad: • Some effects are very meta, effecting dice rolls and such (for example: looking at the GM’s dice rolls behind the GM Screen, etc.). • So silly I will never be able to use this in an actual game.

Conclusion: There are so many alternatives out there, many available for free, $1-2, or pay-what-you-want. It would be hard to recommend this product for $4.99. Its most appealing qualities are the novelty of the concept and the online card generator (if you're playing in front of a computer). It’s, however, quite humorous, and you may enjoy reading it for a laugh if it’s offered on sale.

Potion of Unknown Origin Deck
Publisher: SailorCat
by Toby W. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/18/2022 18:32:16

This is a D100 table of magical effects that also comes in card form.

Some thoughts: • Many effects are very “meta,” effecting dice rolls and such, and don’t have a good in-world explanation of why or how they work.
• Some have very substantial and permanent powers, like the “Deck of Many Things.” • Some effects have assumptions built into them, such as you’re using an XP system to level, and so forth. • Some effects are very “gonzo,” and won’t fit with most fantasy settings – maybe appropriate for some DCCRPG games, or silly and lighthearted games. • Many effects could not be explained by having drank a potion and therefore it’s better to view these as purely random magic effects.

Ultimately, there is no reason to buy this product for $4.99 when better options are available for free, $1, or pay-what-you-want.

Overton
Publisher: Certain Death

Great starting city, and free! I used it as the setting for a city-based campaign and it got great response from my players. I didn't mind that the document was short/brief, because we easily flesched out many other aspects of the city through roleplay. Our group had soon explored the starting adventure fronts, so knowing that the content from certain death was good, I bought "den of theives" which adds and "expansion" adventure front to the city. In both cases I think the NPCs were the highlight. They were imaginative and embraced by my players. The Burrows of the city were disctinctive and had great concepts, although the city quickly swelled in size (from midsize town to metropolis), as my group and I added more and more locations. I would love to see more Overton realated content in the future! You should definately downlowed it as you have nothing to lose, and I suspect if you give it a try you will quickly want to explore the "den of theives."

I'm On A Boat! 2nd Edition (A Dungeon World Adventure)
Publisher: Joe Banner

I really enjoyed this adventure, as did all my players. This, along with Joe's free adventures, lead me to buy his whole catalogue. The NPCs were especially memorable and the players liked them enough that I made them part of the larger campaign front. This is top quality stuff, so it's not a risk to contribute a little more for it, than you might for some random pay-what-you-want content.

I just finished reading this, and it's awesome! It was reallly exactly what I was hoping it would be (we're so often dissapointed). I think this will be an awesome addition for my players; normally there is so little to spend money on in DW. I'm very satisified with this purchase and would recommend it to others!

Glad the product was exactly what you were looking for! My group also struggled with finding what to spend coins on, Strongholds was the result of that need. If you have any suggestions for future products or feedback on existing ones, don't hesitate to let us know.
