Spark Roleplaying Game
Publisher: Genesis of Legend Publishing
by Phil N. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 02/17/2015 09:37:04

Spark is a complete storytelling package, covering setting creation, roleplaying and superb storytelling advice. This is a narrative-heavy game, with the emphasis on the beliefs of the Heroes. When used for setting creation, the process creates beliefs for the setting, and it is these beliefs the Heroes challenge during the game.

Spark works with any setting, and even includes three sample settings in the book. The digital bundle from Genesis of Legend is brilliant value, with bonus pdfs and multiple formats.. If you are looking for a storytelling game with an emphasis on character and belief, then Spark is the game for you.

Legendary Tools: Nobility
Publisher: RPG Objects
by Phil N. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 06/08/2006 00:00:00

This is worth the purchase price for the fresh approach to alignment that the Nobility system offers. The two core classes of Knight and Noble, along with the Paladin Prestige Class are good, full of Arthurian flavour. Yet it is the Honour system that stands out.

LIKED: A flexible alternative to D&D alignments that should encourage role-playing.

DISLIKED: Could have covered more personality traits.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
This is a great way to buy gifts for a friend, simply make the deposit, then transfer the money to their account.

LIKED: Fast and effective.

DISLIKED: Nothing

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Challenges and Rewards
Publisher: Bards and Sages
by Phil N. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 06/04/2006 00:00:00

This expansion to awarding Experience Points is an ideal way to reward Players for their non-combat actions. While many GMs may do this already, the possession of a formula to make such awards is very useful.

LIKED: The formulae for determining non-combat Xp

DISLIKED: The added book-keeping that would be required, although most of the maths can be performed between sessions. Only short, but concise.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
DREAMSCAPES: The Definitive D20 Guide to Worlds Beyond Sleep
Publisher: Adamant Entertainment
by Phil N. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/23/2006 00:00:00

An excellent Toolkit to expand a fantasy game into the Realm of Dream. The GM is presented with numerous options for possible Dream Realms, creatures and magic. The emphasis is upon creating a different feel to adventures in Dream.

Yet, there is more for a GM too. Many of the creature and spell templates can be used outside of Dream.

LIKED: A flexible selection of tools

DISLIKED: Dream Point System too complex for my taste

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
The Inner Planes (2e)
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast
by Phil N. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 04/21/2006 00:00:00

This is an excellent overview of the Inner Planes, both the standard Elemental ones along with the various para-elemental Planes. While it is written for 2nd Edition Planescape, much of the information is easily transferable to any Planar Campaign.

Much of the text is wriiten in the Planescape slang, which some people may find annoying. I thought that this added to the feel of the setting, and meant that much of the text could be copied out and used unedited as a Player Handout.

LIKED: Superb ideas, good flavour, standard layout for each Plane, diagrams for each Plane to show how it connected to the surrounding Planes.

DISLIKED: The text was a little fuzzy in places (reducing my QUALITY rating), only a 2E book, so no skills referenced.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Legends of the Ancients: Macedon
Publisher: RPG Objects
by Phil N. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/11/2006 00:00:00

A short overview of Macedon and the career of Alexander the Great. The stats for Alexander and Socrates were a good touch. Fair value for money, but the title is a little misleading.

LIKED: The Heavy Cavalry core class is very good, effective for military units and aggressive Nomads.

DISLIKED: Lack of cultural detail about Macedon. Short.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
Hot Pursuit: The Definitive D20 Guide to Chases
Publisher: Adamant Entertainment
by Phil N. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/05/2006 00:00:00

This is a brilliant addition to any Gm's reportoire. The ability to run an exciting chase will provide Players with an enthralling game experience that need not revolve around hacking monsters to pieces with a sword.

LIKED: The system was clearly explained and made me eager to run a chase.

DISLIKED: The rules for Aerial and Naval chases were far too vague.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
