Trouble Brewing really shines as a fun, interesting beginners module for the Barebones Fantasy game. It is fairly simple and straight forward, but my players enjoyed themselves a lot. I am looking forward to the follow up adventure, the whole goblins and snails theme just hits a home run for me.

BBF does a remarkable job being both rules lite and very complete. Honestly, you could indeed play with nothing more than this slim tome alone for years. The skill system is very complete and easily tweaked for personal campaigns. Everything is rather straight forward mechanically, adding your own rule options and sub systems is a breeze. I really hope to see the system makes its transition into other genres too.

Anyone familiar with original D&D or any of its more recent clones will naturally know the gist of the system from the start, there are a few surprises within this tome however. It uses an ascending AC system that is a little different than usual. Proficiencies offer a grab bag of skill and feat like abilities that don't weight the game down (plus they are optional). There is a hard cap on character level at 14. Demi-human classes may have a lower cap, but it is less of a handicap when its only a handful of levels at most. High level play is VERY much meant to be about lords and their domains, of which every class has its own unique take.
If I were to ask for more out of ACKS it would be that it included an example domain to get you playing as soon as possible. That and maybe a little dungeon module.
All in all, if you enjoy OSR style gaming there isn't any reason not to give ACKS a look over for ten bucks. If you like enjoy it, the pdf has a coupon for those ten bucks off of the hard back if you just have to have it in good old dead tree. I'm definitely considering it myself.

This is the best 1st Level adventure module I have ever read, period. The writing is clear and understandable, the layout is top-notch and attention is paid to really make this module a pleasure to run at the table. It is not a quick skim and go kind of adventure though. Gamemasters will want to read it fully and get familiar with the cast of NPCs and the location itself to make it come to life, but it is effort well spent. It mixes atmosphere, roleplaying and combat beautifully. Raging Swan Press once again impresses the hell out of me!

I am discovering the sheer awesome that is Raging Swan Press lately, and this module is the icing on the cake. My review here is solely on the free version, but I am already dropping hints into my PF campaign to test player interest on the module. If they seem interested I will be buying the full edition which was just released. In all honesty, I'll be buying to regardless. I have been longing for a well done underwater adventure for some time, and this really fits the bill perfectly. If you are at all curious about The Sunken Pyramid, download the freebie and read it with attention to detail. You will not be disappointed.

This is the setting/adventure path I have been dreaming of in the back of my mind for years! The Razor Coast is a very well put together product. The setting information is amazing and evocative, while the "create-your-own-adventure path" approach is very user friendly. Honestly, after reading this I wish most of the AP's were done in this fashion. Everything form the villain to the potential NPC allies are wonderfully detailed while still leaving room to tweak to your hearts content. The only thing I wish the book covered was low level adventuring in the Coast. The action starts at 5th level, mostly assuming the party will be new comers to The Razor. But what about those parties that want to be natives? It isn't that hard to write up ideas for levels 1-4, but a little bit of advice from the settings creator would have been nice. Other than that I highly recommend The Razor Coast to anyone itching for some oceanic, swashbuckling adventure!

Dragon and the Thief is a wonderful little game to pull out the next time your players are having some down time at the local tavern. It is simple, yet flavorful. I have taken quite a liking to it myself. In fact, I am planning on making a custom board in the future for that extra immersion at the game table. Very well done.

This one is a bit tricky for me, honestly. I loved the first issue and eagerly awaited this ones arrival. Sadly the content isn't very useful or interesting to me. The quality is great; however, and I truly encourage anyone interested in the issues themes to pick it up. You won't be sad you did. I'm just not into the robots and sci-fi stuff in my fantasy, but if that is your thing I say go for it!
Again, great content and high quality for the issues theme. I will be continuing to pick this up every month for the foreseeable future to support all the effort it takes to put out a good magazine.

Beyond the Wall & Other Adventures is a very charming and well designed game. I bought it without a second thought after reading that Lloyd Alexander was one of the major inspirations! Life long fan of his after all. Thankfully it did not disappoint! It is well laid out and easy to read and understand, anyone with a bit of old school D&D history will be right at home here.
I believe they did what they intended here, a game you can just sit down and play "out of the box". Not everyone will be interested in this style of game, but am itching to give it a run. Specific things to point out would be the inclusion of the more modern style saving throws as an optional system for those that dislike the older edition ones and a very nice section on crafting adversaries. My only real complaint would be that there is only one Scenario Book included. While it is a good one and does have replay value, it would have been nice to have a second one or at least available elsewhere. Not that it would be hard to write one up, just that more modules would go a long way in helping the out of the box goal.
Overall, I am really very pleased with Beyond the Wall & Other Adventures and would highly recommend it.

I am more than happy with the debut issue of OGM. The content is very useful and well laid out, and the art is nice overall ( I love the cover!). I will be picking up the next issue, and should the quality hold true many more after that!

This is by far one of the best products to come out of the OSR movement. The game is itself not truly a retro-clone, yet its close enough in spirit to a certain old school game that it captures a healthy dose of nostalgia. However, don't let that fool you! The nostalgia is quickly rooted in a very well done and solid game that honestly stands on its own two or three or however many feet it may have. The book is well layout and very easily digested. I will be grabbing the art included version in the near future and may even buy a deadtree edition. This is a very good game.
The only real criticism I have is that while random table are a blast for some games, it would have been nice to a a side note or two about cherry picking mutations for those gamemasters that may want them. This isn't a game breaker though, it is easily house ruled. In fact, much like all the OSR entries, it is by its nature very easy to house rule and modify to your hearts desire!

This is a wonderfully written intro module for the BLUEHOLME Prentice Rules. It has more "meat" to it than a lot of introductory adventures, and really presents a fully realized dungeon. There is enough background story to bring the game to life without becoming story centered, while throwing more than simple combats at the party.
Very impressed with BLUEHOLMES arrival to the realm of old school gaming!

Loving it! The layout is clean and crisp, the writing is accessible and a nicely polished and overall it is a fun read. I've read just about every retro clone out there, and while I genuinely like most of them to a degree or another, this one grabs my attention. I am eagerly awaiting the release of the Compleat rules.
