This is from the school of we must have rules for everything. So there are hundreds of pages of rules, which must be trimmed to actually play it. Admittedly some of the crowd is good, as in rules on how aging affects characters. Also I admit that the rules are explained well. It's just that there are too many.

not quite as I remember the original, but it was 40 or so years ago. I can't remember it bring as sexually permissive, though the game system does seem improved.

A quick start rules is supposed to give you an idea of how to play the game. If not overloaded with details you can get later. Unfortunately after reading this I had less of an idea of how the game is played than before I read it. Most of the information given on the sample characters is just unexplained numbers and random seeming letters. No idea how to use them to go through the badly explained and laid out scenario. The information on the system was badly laid out, skipping almost all explanation.

I'm not really sure why. But the games it is based on I liked a lot, yet this improved version just doesn't interest me. I am very confused why I don't like it better, when I probably should.

It certainly tells a lot about the era's TV and movies in great depth, yet has some curious omissions of the biggest series. And gives very little information about the game itself. But I now see that there is another preview for the game stuff.

A really good improvement over Heroquest. It requires a lot of imagination from both GM and players as they cooperate to make characters and worlds.
It does clear up my initial misgiving from the free preview, as it needs less than half the aspects I thought it did.
Easiest way in the world to run superheroes as it has almost no number crunching.
Can use any scenario from any game system as it ignores all the fiddly bits and numbers in favor of the feel of traps, monsters and other do dahs.
Anything you can imagine you can do with almost no work.

I liked it. It used its own system, of pick a path type adventure. Which is the down point since you have to go from paragraph to paragraph on a computer. Once past that annoyance, it went well.

Once you get past the 55 pages of how to make a character (it a universal system) it does become close to rules light. Or at least the main mechanic is rules light, just roll a few dice and the highest counts. Its just the pages of exceptions and modifiers for different genres and styles you have to wade through to reach yours.

As a preview it really makes you want to buy it. Very good rewrite of Heroquest. Yet from reading this I think I would cut down the numbers of aspects as it looked like you would have 50-60 of the things to keep track of. Other than that I liked it just fine.

At first it seems strange that half the write up is about a village you just spend a couple of minutes passing by. OK, it still seems strange. But once past the irrelevant village the adventure starts, and does well.

I can't see that much difference between it an Basic Roleplaying by the same guy. Basic is better supported and has lots of free scenarios etc.

Not bad at all really. It is just that I read the more up to date version PDQ Sharp, and it is better. Also Sharp has illustrations, and more examples.

I have no idea of what this game is about. The previews loaded a line of pixels at a time, and I gave up so ordered it. Aside from references to Golden Age, a (book? Movie? TV series?) that is so popular I never heard of it, I read two and a half pages of bombastic blather that enlightened me no farther. I gave up.

basically it was too complicated. Having to build characters from the ground up juggling hundreds of points to build just the character's body as every detail had to be paid for. I just gave up before I even got to the main body of rules.

a first class way to introduce the game system. It gives all the basic rules, only needing the core rule book to add advanced and option. And individual world books to do the individual campaign. The art is a step up from the core book as more of it is grungy looking.
