S1 Tomb of Horrors (1e)

Decent scan - map is very clear.

Text pages could have done with being flattened on the scanner more as you get a bit of page curl towards the centre staple fold, but everything is legible.

You get two versions of the illustration booklet - one as scanned ( greyscale ) and one post-scan processed ( B&W )

The dungeon itself is ridiculously murderous - reads like something a socially awkward DM designs to take his life-frustrations out on unsuspecting players to make himself feel like he has some self-worth after all.

Having said that, I cherish my dead-tree version from 1983!

The PDF scan for UK1 is top-notch. None of the problems that have affected some of the other early TSR module scans appear here.

Every page is clean, centred and straight.

Graphics are clear and well grey-balanced.

The gatefold map is scanned as one single PDF page as it should be, not two separate PDF pages that need to be stuck together.

Congratulations to whoever put this together - let's hope they show the other scanners/PDF-builders at WoTC how to produce further work like this.

Very bad scan of the original - pages are crooked and all over the place. Seems like someone had just 15 minutes to get this through the scanner and into a PDF.

It is still usable however but leaves an unpleasant taste in the mouth having paid for what is essentially a botched job.

D&D Basic Set Rulebook (B/X ed.) (Basic)
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast

After all these years there is still no better or easier introduction to D&D than this version of the rules.

Clean, precise and succinct.

Although the later 1983 Mentzer version contained more hand-holding this tended to mean there were many more pages to read before you could get started.

This version gets you started quickly and gives all the rules needed for a good old school dungeon-crawl.

Paired with a good intro module like B2 "Keep on the Borderlands" and it is all the D&D beginner needs.
