The Quiet Year
Publisher: Buried Without Ceremony
by Jason D. [Verified Purchaser]

A great way of exploring the power of collaborative creativity. The game often evolves in ways nobody could have predicted, interesting links between narrative threads emerge effortlessly, and fascinating stories are easily weaved through play. An elegant and simple rules system that seems to know exactly how well it works.

Additionally, it is excellent as a small scale (large scale with a little tweaking) setting generator for writing or TTRPGS.

[SUPERS]Improbable Tales: Rave of the Dead

My initial review was affected by an issue with the download link that has since been rectified. So, here we go again!

  • Presentation 8/10 - Artwork ranges from good to great, Pontifex Mortis' art is fantastic and the cemetery map is also excellent, the comic is a nice touch and the zombie heroes look great, too! As for the written presentation, it is well formatted and arranged in such a way that quickly finding information is a breeze and pages never seem too cluttered!
  • Content 10/10 - For the price it is surprisingly rich, there are 15 pages, we get a map, various stat blocks for villains and even a section with extra statblocks for vampires, werewolves and skeleton. There are plenty of suggestions throughout the PDF on how to change things up and scale the encounters based on your group.
  • Story 7/10 - The story itself is pretty straight forward, necromancer goes to a cemetery and raises a bunch of zombies and the heroes respond to the threat.
  • Value 10/10 - Can't ask for more for under a buck now can we?

Overall 9/10

apologies - had thought we had solved the file confusion some time in the past. I just uploaded the SUPERS version just now (3/7/2019) with a distinct filename to avoid any confusion on the backend. You should bee able to download it now. Sincere apologies.

D&D Solo Adventure: The Death Knight's Squire
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

A lot of work went into fleshing out each map tile and putting a lot of content into the book. It can be finished quite quickly though (I managed to choose all the right paths and did it in about 2 hours). I would have liked a few more social choices, rather than being kinda railroaded on how your PC acts. I liked the lore and I thought the story was simple but well crafted, especially enjoyed the origin of the Death Knight. The combat was quite easy as a Paladin, high AC made the encounters trivial and divine smite tears things apart at low level, I'd advise picking ranger/rogue/sorc/lock to get the most out of the play through. I'll definetely give it another go with a different class, just to explore some of the other routes and options.

I don't want to say it isn't worth the money, because it is carefully crafted and contains a good amount of content, but I think the playtime and lack of social choices does let it down a little. Maybe a started bundle with the first two in this series would be better. Worth a look if you want a solid solo one-shot, or if you want something simple to introduce new players to D&D.

100 Monster Hunts

As a big fan of Limitless Adventures supplements, I found this very helpful. I like the layout and the list/table summarises each hunt into a number of helpful categories. The descriptions are short but packed with flavour, enough to quickly spark the imagination, but not too much that you worry about running it wrong!

Edit - The author has done a fantastic job applying suggestions from the community on improving the functionality and ease-of-use of this product. Can't recommend it enough.

Kid Friendly Character Sheet
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by JAson D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/18/2018 05:53:20

One of the best character sheets i've seen. Compact, great for new and old players alike. Great layout, very clean, and comes with inventory and spell sheets. A seperate spell sheet with just spell info would be good, though most people I know have cards for each of their spells.
