Another of these really handy collections that serve to prompt those little details that make your alternate reality come alive.
Food is something we all - characters as well as players - need to eat every day... even if our poor characters seem never to actually do so within the context of the game. It gets assumed, neglected, forgotten. Even just telling your players what is on offer in the tavern or inn, what the wizard is cooking when you call round to get some items identified, what's on the table at the potluck supper being held at the local temple... these things make the place come to life.
This list is perhaps most useful if you don't come from the southern US. Exotic and different things can be mixed and matched to create a sense of 'otherness' that reminds people that your campaign world is not just your own locality with dragons or spacecraft thrown in. Even if you are playing a contemporary real-world setting game, you can still indulge in a bit of food fantasy.
And as my characters always seem to end up as the party cook, this will help me decide what's on the menu for the other characters to enjoy...
