The replay value is very low, gets pretty stale fairly fast. Frankly better rule set have come along since for lower prices or even for free.

Slapped together and slipshod game design, which the developers pass off on players and GMs expecting them to come up with fixes.

Shoddy work. A lack of a table of contents makes finding anything difficult. Also the author lavishes page after page on stats, illustrations, and deck plans for vehicles and spaceships but not a single line could be spared for the several new creatures that are prominent encounters.

I would have much preferred more information on the setting instead of the lackluster adventure that was included.

If you think this is a Halloween themed scenario for Battletech you are in for a disappointment. It's a mediocre at best short story without even a resolution at the end. Even free the cost is to much since the time it costs you to read it is nonrefundable.

Basically it's every black pill science fiction movie trope, zero new gound explored just plain predictable and dull. Honestly nothing that hasn't been done before. I can't even find any new ideas to use in more interesting settings. Also even though this is supposed to be a setting book there is a huge chapter of ship design rules. rules, why is this in here? This is supposed to be a setting book and now I'm paying for rules I didn't want. Definitely regretting this purchase.

Hi Andrew, I’m sorry that you were disappointed with Hostile. You are, of course, quite right. It is a derivative setting, and although there are a few new ideas in there, it does repackage ideas, concepts, themes and setting ideas from those gritty 70s and 80s sci-if movies. But that’s the point of the game really, a retro-setting that takes that question “Is Outland, Alien, Bladerunner and Total REcall set in the same universe??” Our answer is “of course” and proceeds to take parts of those movies and smooth them, mould them, and build them back up together into a seamless universe.
This won’t be for everyone, and it definitely sounds like its not your thing. If you’d like a refund, please let me know at paulelliottbooks@yahoo. com |

When a game starts off stating that every player should bring a scientific calculator you need to give it a second thought.

Not a fan of several changes to the rules.
Advantage/Disadvantage added, this was a big problem for many in D&D 5th ed and when mongoose decided to imitate it. Not including it in Cepheus was a big point in it favor, so why put in?
Skills have been removed. Not odd esoteric things, but long time standbys like comms and gambling.
Less randomness character generation. One of the key points of Taveller character gen was that it would not go according to some well laid out plan power gamer blueprint. Like real life unforseen events haveinfluence

I could have done with a lot less random tables and more actually useful information about the setting.

A collection of interesting ideas. Written mostly in reference to the 3rd Imperium setting but easily used for other Traveller setting or even other science fiction settings/rules. Plus a price of $2.99 for 50 pages of actual content a great value.

Another example of the game design theory of, "if I use enough f-bombs and try to be 'edgy' they won't notice how mediocre (at best) this module is."

First off does the author know what editing and formating are? Because the "book" seems to show a complete lack of both. Secondly I had no idea it was even humanly possible to be this laughably ham fisted about a political message, farms around the world are missing their scare crows because this book has so many straw men in it.

While I grumbled about the original $12 price tag for this book at $6 It is a good value. I especially like the 2 page spread color cut away diagram. My only remaining complaint is that I thought it would be better if the NPCs included were and example of a crew for this ship that you might run into as allies or rivals.

If you search the words "city guide" on drivethrurpg.com you can find everything in this guide that is even remotely useful from other people who can write in a coherent style.
