Sewer Map Set 1
Publisher: Wydraz
by Cedric C. [Featured Reviewer]
Date Added: 08/14/2010 13:33:37

SMS1 may lack the touches of a hand-drawn sewer (no rats or skulls here), but it's certainly functional. No need to buy a special set of dungeon tiles for your one-shot sewer scene. Also, like any battlemap, you should be able to use it for any miniatures gaming, such as Doom: The Boardgame. (Didn't Doom have a sewer level? (:

101 City & Place Names
Publisher: Polgarus Games
by Cedric C. [Featured Reviewer]
Date Added: 08/14/2010 13:22:27

As the title says, this download is a one-page list of 101 City and Place Names: Hilmar, Orosi, etc.. I would have liked to see the names presented in a percentile dice table, but, otherwise, this GM aid is worth printing out.

The One Page Dungeon Codex 2009, Deluxe
Publisher: Tabletop Adventures, LLC
by Cedric C. [Featured Reviewer]
Date Added: 08/14/2010 13:17:22

It's been decades since I've designed a dungeon, so I'll admit that I had problems understanding this book. Not that I could create a good dungeon -- arbitrarily placing a room full of wights next to some ogres and both attacking the players at the same seemed to be a good idea. Times have changed and the One Page Dungeon Codex is a discussion of designing a good dungeon -- without running out of energy -- as well as 20+ of the best dungeons submitted in a contest in 2009. If anything, it's a labor of love and GM's looking for design suggestions and/or premade dungeons should definitely look at this download.

Rent a hero: Noell
Publisher: Sade
by Cedric C. [Featured Reviewer]
Date Added: 08/14/2010 12:47:20

Renta a Hero: Noell consists of five .png and three .tif documents. The three .tif documents have our heroine with a city background, and the .png have no background. The .tif documents have her in poses in the .png files. The previews really are a "what you see is what you get". The files are illustrations only, and they're better (and less sexist) than most other CGI heroines I've seen.

Tavern Tables

Useful! This download is more like an article you'd read in a gaming magazine. The random tavern name generator alone is amusing reading. The download doesn't go into as much depth as I'd like to flesh out a tavern, but it's certainly useful if you need to wing a tavern on the fly.

The Boarding House at Arkham Street
Publisher: Three Fourteen Games
by Cedric C. [Featured Reviewer]
Date Added: 08/11/2010 01:10:20

SPOILERS - This beautiful 32-page adventure focuses less on traditional investigation than roleplaying the theatrical mood of a mythos story. Even if your players aren't up for that sort of scenario, the adventure can be easily adapted into a boarding house "home base" where your players eat and sleep while conducting another adventure. For this reason itself, I highly recommend it.

Signs & Portents 72
Publisher: Mongoose
by Cedric C. [Featured Reviewer]

I picked up S&P 72 for the Paranoia article, which consists of six pregenerated Paranoia NPCs. Unfortunately, rather than a "one character per page" format, the layout uses the traditional three-column format, resulting in background of one character starting on the third column of one page, and ending in the first column of another. Still, it's free and if you follow Mongoose games, there's no reason not to download this magazine.

CthulhuTech Quick-Start Rules
Publisher: WildFire
by Cedric C. [Featured Reviewer]
Date Added: 08/11/2010 00:49:56

This beautifully illustrated 50-page Quick-Start download contains setting background, rules of play, character generation rules and pregenerated characters, and an adventure. Not bad for free download! You can take advantage of the PDF format by printing out the appropriate sections for your players, while keeping the GM-only information for yourself.
