The Dragon's Secret (Dungeons of Doom edition)
by Arno H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/26/2023 05:51:42

I really enjoyed "The Dragon's Secret" adventure and wish that Jenelle Jaquays would publish more adventures like this. I found the maps to be well-designed and easy to understand, and the area keys imaginative. The NPCs were varied and interesting, with some being wacky and fun while others were darker in tone. Overall, I thought that this adventure provided a great experience.

Quack Keep
by Jeffery S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/30/2020 23:25:33

The overall production and layout of the PDF was very high quality and the artwork is decent (certainly above average, but Jennell Jaquays has done much better in the past). The issue is with all of the duck puns. The first was amusing, the second somewhat funny, but the ENTIRE product is one long duck joke. I know, I know... QUACK Keep, I should have expected it right? I DID expect a humorous comedy-type adventure, but I was also expecting a serious adventure under it all. It may be buried in there somewhere, but I did not find it. I may be able to salvage some of the encounter ideas and refluff some of the characters, but I do not see myself using the majority of this product. I am glad that I did not splurge on the hardcover, so that I am only out $15. I have always enjoyed older material from Jennell Jaquays, but this has made me wary of purchasing any of her new material.

To clarify misconceptions. There is no "hard cover " copy of this book. It is PDF or softcover. Quack Keep is a campaign setting, not a stand alone game adventure or adventure path. Many of the characters and creatures are based on miniatures sculpted by Darcy Perry of Star Hat Miniatures, one of the book's co-authors. The book does 74 unique hooks for adventures that can be used as adventure inspirations. Nearly all are serious connections to adventure. Quack Keep's 64 denizens have back stories and story hooks that interconnect them with each other and weave throughout the setting. Humor is used throughout the book, but is not THE focus of the book. Having said that, both authors enjoy and employ puns. Jennell writes her game material to be an enjoyable read as well as a fun setting for play.
