Laserblade
by Eric H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/15/2020 12:51:46

This is a more advanced version of the Alien Worlds skirmish game that was originally designed for young children. This game differs in using a D10 instead of a D6 for the basic stats so giving a lot more variation in the forces you can field. Like Alien Worlds the system allows you to recreate your favourite movie or comic on the tabletop. As it is now pay what you want it is definately worth checking out if you want a quick and simple skirmish game.

Alien Worlds

This is a nicely produced introduction to skirmish gamimg aimed at young children but it should provide entertainment for adults as well. Designed for cheaply available 54mm plastic 'spaceman' figures the rules are simple but the main strength lies in the ability to design your characters for any backgound or movie that you want to recreate on the tabletop. Figures only have two stats, ranged combat and close combat but are then modified by special abilities such as 'commander' or 'brawler'. I found the game enjoyable and would recommend it for a quick gaming fix.

Battleblade

The fantasy version of Laserblade sci-fi skirmish rules is nice but in my opinion, close combat and above all, ranged combat, are too deadly. This is good for a sci-fi skirmish set, where characters usually run for cover and close combat is relatively rare, but in a fantasy game, bows etc should be less deadly and hand to hand should be a bit more detailed. Anyway if you want a set of very simple rules, maybe for a campaign with multiple games linked, it can be the ideal set of rules. Some special abilities could probably used in the Laserblade rules too, and the Magic rules are a good add-on to the system. I give only 3 stars because I really think that the way combat is resolved could be improved.

Laserblade - First Edition
by Daniele V. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 12/20/2016 06:29:05

A little gem! Simple but fun D10 sci-fi skirmish rules for 5-10 miniatures each side, with character generation that allows you to play with every miniature in your collection, in every scale (I use 28mm with 4" range). Also easy to customize with house rules; adding characters features, weapons etc. with some adds-on I think they could work for light-hearted WW1-WW2, Pirates etc. Vehicle rules are missing but they can also be made up easily.

A good introductory set of rules for miniature battles with a few figures per side. The book is clearly written and well organized, with useful pictures and examples.

Battleblade
by Mike S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/31/2016 14:42:01

The author's evolution of this skirmish system from Alien Worlds to LaserBlade to BattleBlade has brought a unique sophistication to the game system without sacrificing quick play and more importantly fun. System is fast from party creation to scenario play and lends itself to single-session, linked-secenario campaign play. The structure of all three games in this system allows players or run wild with house rules that tweak game play to their vision with little to no playability sacrifice.

Laserblade - First Edition

A D10 spinoff of this company's D6 Alien Worlds game, this game caters to children and adults alike who are looking for a simple, straightforward rule set that lets you quickly enter into exciting tabletop battles with virtually any miniature figures you may own. More importantly the system is open to addition of fan-generated rules and special character abilities allowing players to easily adapt this system to other genres.

Alien Worlds
by Michael S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/19/2015 12:33:23

Great game for introducing young children to the mechanics of skirmish gaming. Gives children leeway to let their imaginations go wild and create the types of characters they want will no need for complex rules. Game plays smoothly and games can be completed in an hour from character/unit creation to scenario end. For those with slightly older kids (or adults looking for simple, straightforward skirmish fun with any figures they may own) I would recommend that you also look at this company's other offering "Laserblade".
