I had been running a Yokai Hunting Society campaign (monster hunters in Meiji-era Japan) for a while and wanted to give the PCs some more interesting options and a more 'anime' feel. On the other hand I didn't want them to have to learn a new complex ruleset. GAG fit the bill admirably.

The rules are easy to pick up: GM decides on a difficulty level for a D10 dice roll, maximum of 10, player rolls a number of dice equal to the relevant stat and picks the best result. Characters are based on anime archetypes, so you can play things like robots, catgirls, angels, oni or tanuki among others (naturally all the PCs in my adaptation are human). You also select a class, which again are based on anime staples such as Delinquent, Gun Bunny, Everyguy (average person), Witch, Magical Girl, Mecha Pilot, Primal (like Princess Mononoke), and Shonin (martial artist). It's easy enough to write your own classes if none of these can be made to fit, though.

This game is ideal if you want a rules-light, cinematic gaming experience where the characters can do crazy anime stuff.

The book arrived quickly. I don't see any printing errors, so far. The game is relatively easy to understand.

great little system for short silly games. very good at what it does.

Simple, dynamix, and fun. Easy to pick up and play, and the game does a good job of encouraging creativity and 'big moments' in the combat.

Can't speak to balance, but if you're looking for a munchkin-y game experience, I doubt you'd find it here. Leveling up consists of adding an extra point in a skill or picking a new Gimmick (feat). That's it. No number crunching, no game breaking. Lots of flavor and tongue-in-cheek referencing.

Can't wait for the expansions!

A complete game of the modern anime era. Character classes, skills, quirks, races, magical or scientific artifacts, beastiary & foes, setting, hazards. A simple system, 1d10+modifier (never above 3), levels (but no experiance points to keep track of, only 3 hit points, good index, gm advice. All you need to play the game. The only art is one picture each of the character classes, but it is good, of the Pokemon people sort. The character sheet isn't in the book, but is on Drivethrurpg for free.

As a fan of retro videogames and RPGs this seems a good blend of both. Very light on rules for pretty much everything and heavy on imagination this game is good for noobs and vets alike. Definately get this if you love retro videogames or RPGs or both.

This is a rather slick and compact RPG. Definitely one of the best rules-light systems I've run across. It manages to get a nice blend of intuitive mechanics and a low learning curve combined with enough crunch to keep things interesting and wraps it all up in a rather whimsical package. I honestly can't wait to unleash it on my gaming group at the first opportunity.
