The Witch - Book of Shadows
by Wayne [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 12/04/2024 20:08:25

Just purchased the book this week and haven't spent enough time with it to take it all in. Well worth the expense to me, new spells, backgrounds, patrons, a number of tables and a lot more. It's well laid out and is a great addition to my Shadowdark library.

Monster Mash
by Vampire R. Date Added: 02/24/2023 19:00:16

Monster Mash is a great book with some cool classes. I am glad that it tells me where to find spells that are referenced here. I like other products by the same author, and while there are typos, I understand it was rushed to press during the whole evil 1.0a rescinding fiasco, so this is to be expected. I hope Timothy Brannan gives us more of these Digest-Sized hardcoverbooks in the near future!

The Winter Witch for Swords & Wizardry
by Ken A. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/10/2022 05:04:32

There is a lot of content in this. Not just a single class, but multiple classes and class variants, spells, and creatures, so you do get a fair bit for your money.

However, this does feel incomplete. No where in this describes the process for ritual magic, which is one of the Winter Witch's features. I had to look up the description in the Green Witch for it. Also, a lot of the spells feel like they are repeats of each other.

That said, I've bought all the witch content by Timothy Brannan, and I do very much enjoy and appreciate how much work he has put into this.

The Basic Witch: The Pumpkin Spice Witch Tradition
by Kenneth S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/18/2021 09:13:10

Very solid and somewhat whimsical take on the "modern" witch. Lots of spells, rituals, and other options. Can be combined with the author's other witch tradition books. One of the highlights is the monster list, which includes things like pumpkin golems and even the notorious pumpkin head demon himself. If you like your witches in the "Charmed" or "Bewitched" vein, this is worth a look. One quibble is that the editing is a bit shoddy with lots of typos and some inconsistencies and repeated entries in the text, possibly due to cutting and pasting from other sources. But alas, that's pretty much the industry norm nowadays.

The Warlock
by Gray H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/12/2020 09:16:15

It feels like a copy and paste of 5e's warlock class, with very few changes to adapt to an OSR style game. Lots of "at-will" abilities that trivialize resource management. Might be good for someone who is looking to play 5e in the OSE system, but not for me.

The Witch for Swords & Wizardry Continual Light
by Justin I. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/31/2017 12:48:54

If you want the best witch material for your gaming table you need to seek out the work of Timothy Brannan.

The witch is an occult caster that blends arcane and divine. Like all classes for Continual Light, the witch is seven levels. In addition to spells, the witch gains a familiar, access to ritual magic, the ability to brew potions, and ultimately an occult power based on their tradition. These traditions are light (good/law), dark (evil/chaos), and twilight (neutral/balance).

The class isn't the only thing included in the pdf though. We're also presented with seven new monsters that are associated with witches. Of these, my favourites are the winged cat and winged monkey. The monster section is followed by three pages of magic items (primarily brooms, cauldrons, and potions/oils/powders).

If you want some excellent, based on legend and tradition, witch material for your Swords & Wizardry Light game, you definitely need to purchase this.

The Witch: Aiséiligh Tradition for Swords & Wizardry
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 02/11/2017 07:47:37

This short work is a fine moulding of a traditional yet quite modern view of witchcraft into the game mechanics of Swords & Wizardry, enabling the creation and play of a witch character within the game.

There is a lot of background material crammed in, for being a witch is a lot more than learning a handful of spells and finding yourself a familiar. It's a philosophy, a religion, a way of life - and this is mirrored here, along with the necessary rules information that you'll need to create a character. The Aiséiligh Tradition puts a contemporary spin on the class, reflecting how present-day real world witches seek to re-establish and maintain former beliefs in a world that's a mix of very hidebound faiths intolerant of other beliefs and many who do not acknowledge the existence of deities at all.

There are some neat new spells, again encapsulating modern traditions yet keeping hold of the concepts that normally spring to mind when you say 'witch'... especially when you are thinking in game terms. It's interesting to read and exciting to play, especially if you enjoy getting in touch with your feminine side but see no reason for that to mean that your character is weak or subservient: these are strong yet feminine women. A nice addition to this game.

Krampus, The Christmas Demon for Basic Era Games
by Justin I. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 12/22/2016 19:35:26

The author does a good job giving background and translating Krampus from legend to game stats. Show some holiday spirit and toss some silver (or gold) his way.

Sisters of the Aquarian Order
by Justin I. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/22/2016 10:35:25

Originally posted here: http://punverse.blogspot.com/2016/02/sisters-of-aquarian-order-for-white-star.html

The Sisters are an ancient order of mystics that have guided humanity since ancient times. These mystics train there minds and have psychic powers that seem almost magical.

The book is divided into six chapters. Chapter one presents the sister of the Aquarian Order class. The class gets a few psychic powers and rituals. I don't know if this has been corrected in the pdf or for later printings, but the introduction has a few repeated paragraphs.

The second chapter describes the rituals of the order. These psychic rituals essentially work like spells and are very "witch-y" in nature (not surprising considering this is one of Tim's books).

Chapter three gives stats for a new weapon, includes a few pieces of equipment, and includes two new starships.

Chapter four discusses using the Sisters in your game and chapter five extends that by taking about the history, present, and future of the order (plus detailing the Sisters' home planet, Gaia).

Chapter six discusses the splinter Capricorn order and other heresies. I like the treatment of the alternate group and that they aren't really darksiders (in the star knight/void knight way) and in their minds are working for the good of humanity.

This book is a lot of fun. If you want to want to play a witch in space, this is your opportunity. If you're a GM the Sisters provide a great opportunity for mystery. I can't recommend this book highly enough. Get your copy today.
