I like this game...alot. I purchased to play it with my family. I like the simple rules and way it is explained. Very well done. The presentation is not dark or dreary but vibrant illustrations. It's kinda nice to have a cheery feeling to a rpg. You play pre-made character types BUT the author on his site does supply a way of randomly generating your stat numbers. The way the character pages are setup is great. Easy to read and understand. The character abilities are quite nifty and there are some new ideas. For new players...very little setup. Pick a character and adventure. Some may not like that.

For what it is meant to be...it is quite good. If you want more control over your character then it may not be for you. A die hard gamer may not like not having tons of character creation options. It's perfect for my games with my family. Younger players in particular. I know I will end up making my own character types for the game. :D

I enjoy this game and wish I had developed this one myself. I'm rating it 5 based on my expectations and who I play it with. My young family. Others may disagree due to it's simplicity. Not enough options etc. The last thing I want to do is deter anyone from this game. Do your research and see if it is right for your type of gaming. For my purposes it is a very fun game.

I see an adventure is available for it and I will pick that up soon. Good job.

Excellent work! I would have loved to have had this 10 years ago! Very easy to follow, nice simple system to get people used to RPGs. This is enough to get a game up and running, IF the "Dungeonteller" has some experience with setting up an adventure. If you are trying to get your children interested, this is flexible enough to create an adventure around things they like or know. I'm looking forward to the complete set, which I hope will have a few more characters (at least maybe female versions of some of these types), maybe some cut-out characters and map or two. And an adventure or two to get things started. (And maybe have full-color cut-outs, and some blank so players can color their own character!)

Big Hexyland is a set of nine hex-shaped, vector image maps which can be arranged any way you like to form a fantasy campaign map. Since the maps are vector images, they scale very well. In fact, you could take these maps to a print shop and have them printed on a large format printer with no loss in quality. Each map has a companion "node map" identifying each regions important locations and travel times. There are plenty of plot hooks and adventure ideas on each map, giving idea-starved GMs a great tool for generating plot elements or story arcs. If I have one complaint, it's that I wish I could edit the text in the hex maps and the node maps to truly customize the world. But this is a minor quibble and in no way detracts from the product. In fact, I'll probably just use them as is. I hope to see more Big Hexyland maps from Blue Boxer Rebellion in the future.

When I first saw this as a new release, I thought to myself, "That thing looks frickin' cool!" So I went ahead and spent the mere $5 the generous publisher was asking for and opened it immediately. After opening it, I realized, "Yeah, this thing IS frickin' cool!"

But why is it so cool? Well, for one thing, creating a full fantasy world map (or rather a continent/country) can be a lot of work and very taxing on the imagination. Especially if you don't have the time to flesh it out. Plus, you have to make it somewhat realistic or at least put interesting environmental features. These megahexes not only do all the work for you, you can ultimately mix and match them as you please (with a little fudging the borders, no big deal though) to create whatever fantasy world you want!

The only thing that would make this better is Big Hexyland Modular Fantasy World, Volume II with even more hexes to choose from.

This is definitely the perfect starting point for creating your own fantasy world; even if you only use it as a reference!

The 3D style really draws you into the world. A steal at $2.50!

The art style is interesting, but the lines are so faint that it's difficult to print off effectively, or to work with in a paint program. I am using them at the moment and going over the lines again in GIMP2 so I can edit them for my needs. I hope the next sets are a bit more defined and easier to use. If so, I'll be getting them as well.
