I think that Neuicon has that rare skill to balance different components.

I am a dice-junkie and don't need card-games.

So if i tell you that i like this card based game it means a lot!

Putting the rules on a limited space can be a challenge in itself and neuicon delivered.

While i would have preferred to get the rules in the way Futureshock/Crunchies/Armada Strikeforce did it i have to admit that it feels fitting to put them on cards cause many associate the wild west with playing cards and the system is based around cards... Nobrainer! Using a deck of cards for the mechanics add an element of predictability to the randomness that dice have.

On top of that it makes the game even more portable. You need a deck of cards, a very small amount of miniatures per player, the rules on 1-2 cards and a space that is, more or less, 1'x1' (if you look closely it could be played on an even smaller space)... that's all!

If we look at the development of other games made by Neuicon i think that in the future we will see a lot more content related to this game. Savage Blades (more or less the counterpart of AS) went the same way. We got a great "Bier und Brezel"-Game at the beginning and got an even better game at the end.

DEADSQUADS

When i saw the original prompt of this game i was quite excited, but after reading it is not the game i expected. Its extremely boring to be honest.

Lore: the lore is ok, but not anything special. My biggest issue is that it repeats the same info multiple times using different wording.

Exploring: you explore rooms of a dreadhulk. Before going to the next room, all enemies and spawns need to be killed. The last room has a specific objective. The problem is that you heal between every room. Meaning that exploring any room before the last one is just filler, with the only lose condition being the death of 1 or 2 squad members.

Player rules: its extremely basic and does not contain much room for tactics. As long as you can keep distance and take inmates with best shoot value, there is no reason to loose. Ai rules: move to closest enemy. Attack when in base contact. No special rules except a swarm tactic.

Campaign: There is lore, 6 mission objectives and a carreer mode for your squad. But there is no campaign you can follow.

Replayability: the game summery states endless replaybility, but with a total of 2 enemy types, 6 objectives, and only "kill all" rooms, this game gets stale very fast. So yeah, dissapointing. If you are really into the lore of this game, maybe there is something enjoy. But the gameplay is just way too shallow.

Death in the Dungeon
by Corey B. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/10/2024 22:28:03

I picked this up a few years ago because it looked like fun, didn't get around to playing it until recently. My friend and I played three quick games in 2 hours the other day. It was fun, fast and fairly brutal. We liked some of the core mechanics but we both definitely felt like this was a game that would suit a lot of players, maybe at a con or something.

Savage Blades
by Nico W. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/30/2024 22:40:12

I bought this when it was still a "one page ruleset" and while i was sure that the improvements would justify to buy this version i was still blown away!

Some numbers for you math-fanatics: 69% of this is pure fluff to help you dive into this amazing universe. The remaining 31% are reserved for the greatly improved and expanded rules.

This kind of reminded me of the old days when half the rulebooks for skirmish wargames had a ton of background and made you hungry for more... Preparing you for the journey.

The rules themselve are stramelined and logical (what they where anyways) so learning them is extremely easy. Nothing more to say about them, realy... They are good and solid. Flexible enough to make realy unique charakters without any restrictions whatsoever. While the old version was a quick, fun experience that had a "pick up and play in no time"-vibe this version has the same vibe with all the tools you want to ask for if you want to extend this to an ongoing thing for yourself and anyone around you... Without the need of being a veteran wargamer with more minis than you can count... If you indeed are one of those folks: trust me when i tell you that you finaly have a reason to put your favorite minis on the table. No matter where they are from!

Highly recommend!

OUTCAST
by Nico W. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/29/2024 02:43:21

Imagine someone took a classic pen and paper-rpg and used it as a base for a great pc-rpg. Now imagine someone took THIS pc-rpg and used it to make a tabletop-rpg without all that complicated stuff the original pen and paper-rpg had.

The result is this hidden gem.

This ruleset is a swiss army knife to create the adventure YOU want. While giving you a nice framework to start your journey as an outcast, nothing hinders you from switching the base story to something that fits your liking.

The very impressive part is that you get rules and guidelines to hunt, fish, gamble, buy, sell, train and complete quests.

It is like one of those old adventure books where you would read different paragraphs to get to one of many different endings... But this adventure is endless... Till you die!

The miniature skirmish part is kept barebones and still offers enough to make it tactical and versatile. Killing every enemy on the table is not always necessary. The fights are there to tell your story and not to last as long as a normal wargame would do.

You can pick one of the many sample-quests or generate them yourself!

Everything is so intuitive that even if you die fast you will be hooked to start immediately with a new outcast and try again.

And if something is not exactly how you want it... tinker it till it does!

Great Ruleset for a small price!

1944: Combat Shock / Second Edition
by Carl J. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/18/2023 05:15:40

This is a great casual WWII themed skirmish ruleset.

The rules are very simple and are a good gateway into the hobby for people not into sci-fi or fantasy. I would say that they may not be in-depth enough for more seasoned gamers.

The PDF is nicely presented with the inclusion of historical photographs.

If you're thinking of trying out tabletop wargaming with a WWII theme but don't want to spend too much money, give this a go. (You can use your old toy soldiers... or go buy some new ones).

I'm always astonished how much flavor Neuicon can squeeze in such a tiny space. The rules are tight, easy to understand and leave much room for customization and personal hacks.

FUTURESHOCK! / Issue 2
by Andrew C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/28/2020 13:20:42

Addition of mutations in this one are great. Vehicle rules are functional, but I think you are going to want a larger playing space than the prescribed 1x1' space. That is a little like putting a car in a wrestling ring. Could be funny, but I think more space would feel better.

Again, rules are quick and easy to understand, but allow for as much simplicity or complexity as you desire.

FUTURESHOCK!

These would make a great entry level gaming experience. While simple, I like the points value method of adding to your thrashers. I think that gives it just enough variation that there is some control over your character build, but in the end you still just end up with an attack modifier and a defense modifier. That makes opposed rolls pretty easy.

Once everyone gets the hang of the basics, the system pretty quickly and easily allows for a more complex level of play, and makes house rules easy enough to add without breaking the delicate balance of the rules.

FUTURESHOCK!
by Brian R. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/12/2020 20:44:25

So, wandering around on the site, I saw the cover art and clicked on it because why the hell not, I'm bored. Reading through the description, I stopped at 'plays on a 1 foot x 1 foot board'. Wait, what? And it uses standard Battlemaul sized minis? .99 huh? Sure, I'll bite.

Wow. Ok, now, the rules fit on one page of paper. Not one sheet. One page. How much detail can there be? Welllllll... a good bit. This game distills skirmish miniature battle games down into a white lightning can of whoop-ass. The system for creating your own fighters is quick, with enough generic/abstract to just let a couple of folks throw some minis they already have on a table and blow the crap out of each other. Got a guy with a big ass gun? Give him an Assault Rifle +3. Or a Gore-X Rotary Bladecaster and Tenderizer +3. Same effect, same cost, different names. There's no 17 page explanation of the various types of cover and how they interact with each type of attack. Nope. Cover is mutually decided upon by the players at the beginning of the game, and comes in 3 basic varieties that basically add a bonus to your defense rolls. Even though combat can begin on the very first activation, all models have 2 Health to start, and all hits inflict a single wound, so they all have a bit of built-in staying power. Not that they need it; games are brutal, and only last 15-20 mins at most. Combat is simple as well, with the attacker rolling a single d10 plus bonuses vs. the defender's 1d10 plus bonuses. If the attacker exceeds the defender's total, the attack succeeds. Just like that.

Oh yeah, I mentiomned activations. I have always liked this mechanic more than 'I move and shoot with all my dudes, then you move and shoot with all yours'. In FS players alternate activating models one at a time. Each activation gets that model 2 actions. These are all basic move/fight type stuff, including Guard. This, I think, may be the one thing that keeps FS from being a 5-star for me. This action is given a quick, basic description, but it's the one thing in the game I wish had a little more fleshing out. Otherwise, it's a really great, simple ruleset.

I'm kind of smitten with this one. Single-page rule sets are kind of my jam, both minis and rpg, and this one has quickly shot to the top of my favorites list. It's not Combatsledge, but that company does happen to make a miniatures game of skirmish-style gang warfare. Those minis would probably be perfect for FS. Or so I hear. However, any minis will do.

Grab this one if you like quick, dirty battles with simple, minimalist rule sets. You won't be disappointed.

Absolute Valentine: Memory Green / Episode 1

Really awesome read, full of vivid imagery and intense action. It was rife with excitement, introduced several interesting characters, and launched what promises to be an action-packed plot, all in just a few pages. I can't wait to see the characters and plot develop. A must read for lovers of underworld action and intrigue. Eagerly awaiting the next chapter.
