This game emulates various superhero genres fairly well and can handle "cosmic" level campaigns. The system itself is minimalist: categorical skills and a unified die mechanic [Stat + Skill + d20 verses a difficulty number or another roll]; essentially Fuzion, OGL and 4c with a smattering of Heroes Unlimited. If you want an inexpensive system to handle a single session with the possibility of an extended campaign, this may be the book for you.
The positives:
Virtually all of the elements of character generation are random roll, so characters and NPCs can be generated in a number of minutes. The genres covered include, Four Color, Street Heroes, Magic, Cosmic, Martial Arts, etc. Savage Worlds fans may appreciate this as an alternative system. [the only aspects laking for my taste are vehicle and mecha construction rules].
The negatives:
The book could have used a more thorough edit. The term "Main Stat" is used throught the book, but in one of the examples, it is referred to as "Main Stat Bonus;" pronoun antecedent agreement is another issue. Some rules tweaks are also warranted. The system allows for the variable die to be changed according to the GM's wishes, but gives no guidelines for varying difficulty numbers accordingly.
Conclusion:
Jay Libby has been gaming and reading comics for decades. This game is his salute to the hobby's emulation of the genre. If you're looking for a "quick fix" rules set for supers that won't put you out financially and won't require hours to learn, this might be for you.
