UN Specials: Revival (G-Core)
by christopher c. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/17/2013 19:06:47

The UN Specials: Revival book is the newest release from DGBG. It deals with a special organization dedicated to the discovery of the unknown and how to deal with it.

The Good: This book contains a lot of information for its size. There is a good amount of back-story that establishes what is going on with the organization, its leader, and several highly detailed backgrounds for important individuals. There is also a short but easy to use system for random character creation which is helpful for those that don't really know what they want or for those who need a character on-the-fly.

The Bad: The only a couple of minor nit-picks that I can think of . The first is the fact that there isn't' much detail about the actual tactics that the UN Specials use when battling their foes. It would be helpful to have some of information on this sort of thing, but the writer may already have that planned for another supplement. The second is there is a little bit of assumption that the reader already has some knowledge of the Guardian Universe but this is simple to work around.

All in all I think this is an excellent buy and is well worth the price for anyone who loves the supers genre as it can easily be 'ported to just about any setting.

And keep in mind, as always all G-Core products are usable with the FASERIP predecessor, which is always a good thing!

Monsters Twilight 3 (G-Core)
by christopher c. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/02/2012 15:44:45

I am fortunte enough to have most of the G-Core releases and this one is among my favorites. It does a good job of brining in a truly powerful beast and its offspring into the G-Core universe and give us just a taste of some of the evils that Plague the Guardian Universe.

The PDF contains information/write-ups on several monstrous creatures as well as Cthulu himself in all his evil-goodness. I reccomend this product to anyone that is a fan o the G-Core system or just a fan of monsters in general. Well worth the read.

Chris

G-Core DELUXE
by Curt M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/14/2012 22:02:40

This is the sleekest presentation of the G-Core rules yet. The most confusing aspect of the system--the saves-- has been completely redone. As Jay says, this isn't FASERIP, but if you're like me and you judge all supers RPG by that game, then you're likely to find something in G-Core Deluxe that you'll like. Some of the high points include the hardware and vehicle creation rules and the scaling system borrowed from Jay's TBS system. This is a beautifully done PDF, and you're not likely to find something comparable for the price [Note: for better or worse, as of this review the ICONS core book is no longer $1.99] in the Supers genre, at least not something as backwards compatible with FASERIP. Yes, I know about 4c. I've even written for it. It may be free, but it's buggy. G-Core has been tweaked and tested for years, and Jay isn't afraid to tweak it some more. Put it in your cart Super Hero fans!

A compact collection of eight classic movie monsters for the G-Core system, to inject some B-movie fun into your adventures. Includes a one-page scenario to help introduce the monsters into your game. A good choice for anyone looking to bring some horror into their G-Core campaign.

G-Core
by Ben G. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 02/28/2012 11:13:30

To start off, the G-core book weighs in at 57 pages. That’s all you’ll need for a complete gaming experience, from character creation through all the rules and in-game examples of how to play. It’s a tight system designed to get you up and gaming as quickly as possible.

I’ll start with the price. At $2.25 you have before you an entire RPG at the cost of an impulse buy. I can sacrifice one cup of coffee today and have months worth of entertainment, and that’s something you can’t beat with a stick.

The mechanics of the game are very simple, using just one d10 to resolve all rolls. With just a touch of math, anyone can play, which makes this ideal for kids or people who don’t have much gaming experience. This makes it a very fast system as well. Character generation happens quickly and the group is free to jump right into the game.

Everything you need to play this is included in the 57 page PDF. Should you want more, there are a ton of freebies available for G-Core online. So you not only get the game for just over two bucks, but hundreds of pages of extras, additional rules, NPCs and any new errata that appears in between editions. If you’re looking for more material, there’s also a bevy of PDFs available at DTRPG for anywhere between $1 and $5.

If you have some older FASERIP materials hanging around, or would like to access any of the online material it can very easily be converted into the G-core system.

Jay is an incredibly accessible person. If you have a question or suggestion, he’s fast to act on it and is more than willing to update G-core when a good suggestion comes his way. He’s also very passionate about his games. He truly loves the hobby and creating, which shows in all of the freebies available for this system.

I had a great time playing G-core. I can highly recommend it as a great game for your group. It’s easy, can be played as a campaign or as a fun one-shot to take a break from an ongoing campaign and is just plain old fun. I can’t stress how good of a deal this is at $2.25. If you’re on the fence, get off it and go get this!

I picked this up as a means to update and expand my old favourite "FASERIP" system. This is a useful and fun product that can be easily integrated into the 'old school' game to add some new life to a much loved system I've played for many, many years. Thanks for making this available, Jay!

G-Core
by Michael T. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/13/2012 15:10:30

For the small price of G-Core you get a lot of bang for your buck. I'm an old Marvel Superheroes FASERIP system player and GM, so I was really happy to see DGBG come out with this nice rules-lite system. It really is true that you can convert the old FASERIP characters to G-Core in a couple of minutes. That means all of my old information can be converted over very quickly.

There are a few minor editorial fixes that could go in here but that is a minor gripe. DGBG has been supporting the hell out of this product with add-ons and has been very responsive to customer requests, so if you don't see something there that you'd like to add, give the company a few weeks. :-)

Overall I am very happy with this product.

G-Core
by Mark N. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/25/2011 14:29:16

on the plus side it is cheap... on the negative side 'you get what you pay for' which in this case is very much on the 'homebrew system that looks a lot like the others'.

I'll admit to having a preference for simple systems so as soon as I find something with page after page of tables I tend to lose the will to continue. What G-core needs is something that makes it different from all the other near identical systems. If you want a good selling point check out the elegance of Icons, the detail of Mutants & Masterminds, the flexibility of Truth & Justice.

If you want a simple comparison have a look at Resolute - which does everything you need in a fraction of page count

We are sorry you didn't like G-Core. The tables weren't resolution tables, they tell players what things mean for their character. They are quick references for players and game masters. Add to that, G-Core is a modern take on the classic FASERIP system. But one must play the game to appreciate the value that it brings. The other reviewers gave G-Core that chance and there are plenty more convention players that would agree that G-Core is a pretty cool game for the superhero fan. This review is more like a platform to promote other supers game that fall into the crowded fanbase and less like an actual thought out review with with detailed reasoning 'why' the buyer didn't like the game.

Dark Days: BlackBolt [G-Core]
by Doug P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/08/2011 20:16:16

Dark Days Blackbolt is an incredible supplement. It’s chock full of dark super heroes and back by a compelling story. I’m so glad I started using the G-Core system, character creation is simple and the rules are quick and easy but still dynamic and explosive. Best of all, the creator supports the system and keeps producing cool supplements. I want more.

AlphaVerse II
by Jay D. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/18/2011 11:47:39

AlphaVerse II is 50+ pages of awesome. Mr Libby does a great job of introducing the setting with a bit of history, the groups involved and then the characters available. AVII focuses more on the combat & action side and makes a good framework for using miniatures. I love this because I am not a huge RPG fan but I do like my miniature skirmish characters to have some dept and not juts a stat line. Another fun part of this game is that there aren't really any good guys. Bad is good!! You've can play as a kill-crazy Black-Ops merc, a hunted Mutant, an under-dog Marine Commando or mutant hunter waring power armor to name a few things.

Likes: Page Count is low and formatted for 8.5 x 5 paper (2 pages on 1 sheet), the story line is totally cool because it takes place around New England (I'm from Maine), most of the rules can be used for miniature table top skirmishes.

Disliked: Where's Issue #5??I NEED MOAR!!! :)

Satisfied: 100%

Zeta Cavalry [G-Core]
by Curt M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/01/2011 16:11:31

I am not a fan of Power Rangers, mostly because of the cheesy dialogue, but I am a fan of Sentai anime like Gatchaman and Voltron. Zeta Calvary fits this niche. Basically, a highly trained team of human special forces uses alien technology, including giant robots and a process to make them temporarily really big, to fight the forces of an evil galactic syndicate. think Robeasts, and other "monsters of the week". I am a huge anime rpg fan, so in some ways the "Summer One Shot" analogs are more appealing to me than the house Guardian universe setting. Either of the two release so far represent great entry points into the G-Core system. So how about it Jay, what about a Bubblegum Crisis / Evangelion inspired one shot? Oh and, yes potential buyers, the cheesiness of Wolftron is not lost on me, but come on, Voltron is pretty freakin' cheesy, and watching the new show has become a guilty pleasure.

DEAD G-Core
by Jay D. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/01/2011 14:53:47

G-Core DEAD is exactly what I needed to play zombified heroes ala Marvel Zombies.

This supplement also explains how to fit this into a Guardians world/campaign.

Liked: G-Core DEAD is written by a fellow Mainer, - this supplement could be used as a basis for a Post-Apocalyptic world

Disliked: The files are a bit ink hungry. A Screen version and a Print version would be nice but that's asking at bit much for such a low priced product.

Satisfied: Totally, 100%

We are very glad you liked. This PDF is great for Marvel Zombies. We had played the scenario in the GU about 8 years ago. It was a great way to tie in The Surgeon to all the GU product lines. The original super hero zombie for the Guardian Universe appeared back in 1989 during one of my game sessions!

G-Core
by Jay D. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/01/2011 12:44:10

Don't be fooled by the affordable prices of the Dilly Green Bean Games because for less than the price of lunch you can get a solid Super Hero RPG system along with plenty of Add-Ons that give you plenty cool stuff. The G-Core book alone has had me entertained for hours with its comprehensive Character Creation process. The rules are simple pick-up and it doesn't matter if you've played using FASRIP or Fuzion before.

Liked: G-Core is written by a fellow Mainer, the system is flexible enough to support more than just Superheros & Jay's other projects are pretty cool, (I do not know Jay Libby)

Disliked: The files are a bit ink hungry. A Screen version and a Print version would be nice but that's asking at bit much for such a low priced product.

Omega and the Guardians [G-Core]
by Curt M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/20/2011 11:32:09

Omega and the Guardians is easily the best G-Core product since the Core book and probably should have followed it in the release schedule. We get a cohesive history of superhuman activity in the Guardian Universe 3 setting and detailed write-ups of the Guardians themselves. A few villains round out the 38 pages. The Guardian Universe is essentially an amalgamation of several comic book tropes, as played out in the author's house campaign over the last 20+ years. Jay Libby writes that this is the last GU3 product, but somehow I doubt it. Too many questions are left unanswered. What will the Brood do now that he controls the Earth's superhumans through his parasite? Can the few immune heroes unite to defeat the Godlike Omega and the Guardians? If you bought the Core pdf, you can't go wrong with this one for a buck fifty. One word of caution: this pdf is graphics heavy and huge. It crashed my generation one iPad, twice.

DEAD G-Core
by Curt M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/23/2011 18:24:47

G-Core Dead is a humorous genre add-on discussing the gaming physics of zombies, how to zombify your heroes and villains, the inclusion of zombies in a standard game and one fully illustrated character writeup, all in six pages for 75 cents. G-Core keeps getting better. As a game derived from TSR's Marvel Super Heroes, G-Core supplements are compatible with ICONS with a little fudging of the math and the edition of Aspects.
