Spheres Apocrypha: Sidhe Court

I don't really remember what this book added outside of the Hunter Archetype but that was pretty cool.

The Jester's Handbook
by Tom G. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/09/2020 13:19:54

The book comes off as just a joke at first with all of the names of all the added talents and archetypes being puns or other such jokes, but all the options I'd say are actually pretty dope and add some options to the sphers that just feel like nice quality of life stuff. Overall, great book.

The Initiate's Handbook
by Tom G. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/09/2020 13:17:36

I really enjoy the thematic behind the sphere and having a sphere all about just pure magic is really cool. I, however, greatly dislike how it plays out in practice and think a lot of the abilities are just very balance breaking for the system as well as the base sphere abilities themselves being way too overloaded.

Spheres Apocrypha: Debilitating Talents
by Tom G. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/09/2020 13:15:27

Always been a fan of debuffing and getting more debuff options is always a good thing. Since there was already a poison book, it's nice to see some other spheres get some love on that front too.

Spheres Apocrypha: Swashbucklers!
by Tom G. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/09/2020 13:13:01

Book is dope. Makes the swashbuckler more fun overall by giving it a neat new archetype as well as ways to trade out old deeds for new sphere centric powers, with a focus on many different spheres so it also isn't pigeon holing you.

Some good love to the warleader types as well as the unarmored types. It also has an archetype named the Braveheart so where can you possibly go wrong with this.

Spheres Apocrypha: Armor Talents
by Tom G. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/09/2020 13:02:57

Unlocks heavy armor from classes that use armor training and does some neat things to incentivise building armor. All in all a pretty solid addition, though could probably do with a bit more to keep armor on par with unnarmored as well as give some kind of alternative for armor training as it is now lessened in value. Still good though.

The Youxia's Handbook
by Tom G. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/09/2020 13:00:36

Lot to enjoy with this book, between granting every martial sphere a passive stance buff of some sort as well as really making the inner punch lover within me go wild with all of the unarmed and athletic options. Archetypes are all solid as well, between some standard martial archetypes to mid casters as well as a few more neat things like a gish striker and a nerd who just wants to deck someone in the face. Overall, really enjoyed the content of this book would recommend for any spheres of might user.

The Warden
by Daniel L. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/08/2020 16:34:26

Loving this book so far, if you feel like you need more defensive options wheter magical or martial this book is a great additon to a spheres game. The new class and archetypes really help with keeping a party on it's feet during a long day, and for alchemy users we now have several new options for filling the need of healing and conditon removal without magic.

The Youxia's Handbook
by James A. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/05/2020 18:24:27

Love the added options for martial oriented characters! This also has two of my favorite new archetypes, the Kung Fu Exemplar bard and the Martial Elementalist. The Bard archetype gives the class a whole new spin and is a very solid choice for blended character. The Martial Elementalist gives the classic SoP class just enough leeway be a great chasis for a martial caster focused on one type of magic

The Youxia's Handbook
by Antoine M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/05/2020 17:42:15

Contains a ton of new content for Sphers of Might and some spheres of power content that tries to bring an otherwise explored niche a fresh breath of life. The only thing keeping me from rating this 5/5 is that some options ended up being too conservative. These options remain valuable and a great addition with a little more leeway for otherwise completely gimped character concepts in late-stage era of pathfinder.

The Warden
by Anthony S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/30/2020 17:49:26

So The Warden includes not only a new class, but additional options for other spheres/classes focused on endurance. Ultimately it's the quality content I expect from DDS.

The Warden specifically is interesting. It's focused on something that is generally considered 'bad' in the context of pathfinder, which is protecting your allies. While exceptions exist, generally it's considered more valuable to be able to incapacitate enemies than protect allies. After all dead enemies can't generally hurt you.

Despite that, the class looks really fun and feels right at home in pathfinder. It's what the paladin always wishes it was. I already have players interested in playing it, and its protective buffs are an easy and powerful way to add additional challenges to create difficult encounters without killing the XP budget. The ability to pick your focus sphere helps define your role, while a number of options still allow for taking the fight to the enemy.

If the warden has a downside, aside from its defensive focus it almost seems TOO good. This is more a gut reaction than any real analized evidence of the fact but it probably stems from having SO many abilities. It's focus on defense is quite possibly considered a detriment to offset its wealth of abilities, but its hard to imagine any class really being better than the warden. It's mid combat, mid caster (with access to full for its sphere of choice), and plenty of talents that it can use to easily fulfill a powerful party role without compromising its defensive abilities. It's basically always going to have to be considered if anyone wants to play a buffer, support or tanks character of almost any variety because its JUST that good. I wouldn't be surprised if wardens became a staple of sphere groups, replacing the warrior or priest roles in most any party.

The rest of the options in the book further expand what you can do as is the norm for DDS books. The warden is worth the price tag, but the rest of the options sweeten the pot. Many of the options are defensive in nature which is on theme, but the avatar and elemental options are welcome and flavorful.

Overall, nothing that I feel should take off a star and plenty to make it worth its price tag. Especially if you're invested in the system already with Ultimate Spheres of Power and Spheres of Might.

Mythic Spheres of Power
by Antoine M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/28/2020 22:52:50

I loathe mythic. Even its creator attested to it as a mistake. This book takes mythic in a slightly different direction and tries to give advice to DMs on how to avoid the common pitfalls of mythic which boils down to "ban this content please." What it did well, however, is include an excellent DM suggestion applicable outside mythic as a subsystem called Expertise. Allowing a PC to poach a build defining class feature (within GM reason) to fulfill a character concept has always been possible through rule 0, but this suggestion markets it as a more applicabel option.

The Inventor's Handbook 2
by Antoine M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/28/2020 22:50:33

The tech sphere keeps changing hands and authors and terminology keeps getting more dense. The mechanics themselves are fine, but the longer this sphere gets worked on the more it just feels like it should have been an Alien Source for Spheres of power rather than a martial oriented sphere.
