Good book - just about. It's a bit short and the adventure was easily the worst part of the book. Not good. Fortunately the rest of the book had great details about New York up to 1943 when the game is set.
DETAILS ABOUT NEW YORK
The detail level is quite sketchy - no mention of Hell's Kitchen, no mention of the segregated communities on Manhattan island, other than the obvious - Harlem, and so on. Overall, there are some details that would let a gamer develop New York as a living city in play, but I think overtime the lack of details would tell, and a lot of work would be needed to get the value from the book.
RULES
Virtually no rules as such, which is good as I would not have appreciated an intensive rules chapter taking still more of the thin page count.
THE ADVENTURE
The adventure is not good. There are any number of film noir plots infinitely better than this. Also, the lack of alternative support pages such as maps, a few NPCs of general use, some illustrations of period vehicles, a timeline of New York events and so on would have been far more welcome.
SUMMARY
Well enough produced, some excellent content some content not so good.
For the price it is OK, but not fantastic.
