Unhallowed Metropolis Revised
by Matt F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/21/2014 14:02:37

The setting is fascinating, well put together, detailed and where there are shortfalls the writers have offered ideas from other media as handy hints.

The base system is very simple, roll 2d10+skill/stat against a static target number, however it can get a little mathematical when you add in various positive and negative modifiers. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes very simple to remember and use.

It's basically the same system used by SLA Industries but with fewer variables to remember.

All in all, I'm looking forward to continue playing and running the game.

4/5 stars easily.

Disclaimer: I'm a freelancer who plans on submitting material for this game, and also friends with some of the writers. That said, I got to know them precisely because I found their game so compelling.

This is probably one of the best settings to appear in tabletop RPGs in a decade. "Steampunk zombie apocalypse" is a great elevator pitch, but it barely does the game justice. The world of Unhallowed is carefully thought out, internally consistent, richly detailed, unflinchingly dark, and yet easy to understand. I don't think fans of gothic/horror games have had a playground this interesting since Vampire came out.

Unhallowed Necropolis
by Tim-Oliver H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 12/24/2012 19:02:00

As with the core rulebook we have here a nice expansion of a very interesting second. The artwork is also nice although again kind of sexist.

But again the author struggled to make the rules easily comprehensible and clear, leaving too much room for interpretation (what sucks big time in such a complex system), we have usual errors like leaving out the XP-costs for raising devotions (the psychic powers), although it is mentioned in the text that it is possible and wanted... The worst part with the psychic powers - one of the core themes of Unhallowed Necropolis - is that according to setting description that the crazier you become the more powerful you become. Problem is that according to system you just buy new levels with XP.

To add insult to injury the author gave the psychic calling access to stunts which can make such a character easily next to immune to mental disorders.

So the further information are great but for me "system does matter" and this here is just broken. It wouldn't be that bad if the publisher showed any interest in their customers and had established customers support.

Unhallowed Metropolis Revised

When I bought Unhallowed Metropolis I was impressed with thr setting. It is very well written and detailled. The artwork is also quite nice although it is prartially sexist.

So why did I rate this game with only 2 stars? The reason is the horrible system. The base mechanic is simple but then you have to add various factors as well even more than in other more complex rpgs I wrote.

Add to this wrongly calculated advantages and disadvantages, the missing balance, unclear rulings and other errors in combination with a non-existing customer support (it is really not existing. Mails or posts on the publisher's message board are not answered by the author or any other employee).

So it is good material for conversions but that's it.

Gasmask Gazetteer #4, Spitalfields Rookery

What more can I say than this being another great little addition to the game, exploring the grim life of the Rookeries of London, providing new NPCs, locations and storyhooks. As always great art, and excellent material, plus a host of new rules and feats and merits for characters.

Unhallowed Necropolis
by Christopher H. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 10/26/2012 17:32:14

Necropolis expands upon the basic zombie, post-apocalyptic, neo-Victorian setting, and introduces the more spiritual and mental horrors of the setting. Ghosts, psychics and the mad. Once more the book is gorgeous monochrome with excellent art and photography that drives home the theme and mood of this part of the setting. Writing is once more provided by Jason Soles (Warmachine/Hordes/Iron Kingdoms RPG), Nicole Vega, and additional work is provided by Simon Berman, amongst others. George Higham who also wrote content is also the sculptor for the cover art of the book. Speaking of art, we once more have work by Brian Snoddy (Privateer Press artwork for Warmachine and Hordes) and Melissa Uran (Exalted). We also have great photography of awesome looking models.

Gasmask Gazetteer #1, Dhampiri of the Underground
by Richard C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/03/2012 09:44:26

This is a great introduction to UnMet, providing an interesting location on the fringes of society with encounters for your party. It's a good example of a 'vanilla' adventure location and opposition made interesting. I found it a useful jumping off point for my own ideas and a guide to getting started writing my own stuff. As an entry point into the underground it could easily lead to other things. At seven written pages this is also the perfect length for the GM-on-the-go to pick up and run.

I gave this a rating of four out of five because I felt the Waterloo Underground station could have been detailed a bit more - one or two memorable NPCs could have really raised this up. A map would also have been really useful. Ultimately though, there's enough here to provide a great short scenario and inspire you to build it into more if you want to.

Given that there's also nice new stunts and qualities for underground fighting and Dhampyr characters, this is a great little supplement.
