Ursa Carrien
by Tim D. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/15/2011 16:12:58

The first release from Nightfall Games since they regained full publishing independence in 2011, Ursa Carrien is a Threat Analysis file -- a self-contained briefing about one particular issue facing the World of Progress.

The eponymous Ursa Carrien are a new stable mutation thrown up by the ever-fluid Carrien DNA pool. They're a strong addition to the species, adding an extra niche -- and an interesting new challenge for the players, particularly ones that think they've seen all there is to see. The briefing is detailed and thorough, and peppered with the quotes and snippets that make SLA Industries so vivid. It includes information on the Ursa's environment, Cannibal Sector 2, along with full background, typical behaviour, origins, combat tactics and full stats. There's also a dangerous little BPN to introduce the Ursa to the PCs. The content, written by RPG veteran James 'Grim' Desborough, is engaging and useful throughout.

As you'd expect from a Nightfall product, the design is gorgeous, and the briefing is peppered with lovely bits of original Dave Allsop artwork. If there's a fault, it's simply that it leaves you wanting more SLA Industries. Still, for 92p you most certainly won't feel cheated -- and other Threat Analysis files are available, with more on the way.

TL,DR: A lovely addition to the SLA Industries canon.

Klick's End
by Ed A. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/13/2011 14:38:39

Nightfall are really spoiling the SLA fan base, new and old with this new material. Klik's End has a lovely, "Urban Deliverance," feel that is very engaging and brings some light to Downtown life in a serous slum sector. The BPN is more a framework than a fully finished adventure, but that just gives the GM plenty of room to put in his own touches and tie it to an existing campaign.

Overall, excellent work. More please.

Cannibal Sector 1
by Allen H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/12/2011 16:45:21

Initially I had put off buying this product because I had heard some negative things about it. I really should have known better, though.

The product is excellent and gives an expanded view of Mort and the Cannibal Sector. It really explains things that I feel are lacking from the main rules book (especially the size of Mort city and the Cannibal Sectors in general).

The adversaries in the book expand the universe greatly. The Scavs are awesome. The Manchines exist in a vacuum no longer. The cannibals remind me of very bad things from very bad nightmares.

The book really gives an excellent feel for the sector, as well as giving a feel for what the rest of the city is like. It gives a real purpose behind higher level SCs. There is information buried in the sector that many people should not know.

Klick's End

This is an excellent product. It really gives an incredible feel for the setting, especially the "normal" civilians of Downtown. The description of people's attitude reminds me of what some darker neighborhoods in the real world will end up as.

These products are dragging me back into the World of Progress. Now I need to drag my players in, kicking and screaming if necessary.

Klick's End
by Mark P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/12/2011 16:21:57

Following on from the first "Ursa" PDF product Klick's End provides an excellent microcosm of Downtown where the population are really unfriendly. The artwork is first class and the content feels spot on for the urban nightmare of Downtown.

There are a couple of pieces of new equipment and a starter BPN with some great plot hooks to get your players involved. The NPC's are fleshed out to the right amount of detail and everything is packaged up and ready to go. Certainly something I will using in my SLA games to come.

The only minor niggle is the justification of the text splits many words onto two lines which can break up the flow of the text.

Can't wait for the next one.

Ursa Carrien
by Mark C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/11/2011 06:37:41

The Ursa Carrien are a great new addition to the monstrous inhabitants of Cannibal Sector Two and the opening illustration by Dave Allsop is a stunning piece of work. After the cover page there is a one and a bit page description of the new Carrien for players and GMs. The rest of the PDF is GM only including statistics for these new creatures, the weapons they use and a BPN “Armed for Bear”. Ursa Carrien will provide a new and interesting challenge for players and are an excellent addition to the game.

GM’s will find the material useful. The Ursa Carrien’s behaviour, combat style, life cycle and relations with other Cannibal Sector inhabitants are fleshed out. The BPN is well thought out and nicely focused on the Ursa Carrien. They feel located in the game universe not just a random addition. It’s good to get a chance to see how Nightfall themselves set up a straightforward BPN.

Ursa Carrien
by Henrik B. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/11/2011 03:14:14

While I have always loved the carrien, I find it refreshing that a new addition is finally here. The carrien has for a long time been the creature you've thrown at the players when you feel it is time for an encounter, or when felt like ambushing the squad.

The book/pdf is of high quality, and the BPN that comes with it is well constructed and very entertaining. Without a doubt it should be an addition to every SLA Industries GM out there.

Ursa Carrien
by Simon N. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/08/2011 10:28:52

For years Carrien have been the default cannon fodder for SLA Operatives. This datasheet turns the tables slightly more in the favour of the creatures. While short, the Ursa Carrien supplement is a concise and well produced piece of work which provides a GM with something new and interesting to throw at the players, and something more for the players to worry about. Alongside the detailed game mechanics and description, there are snippets of in-character reports and a small pre-written adventure. At such a low price Ursa Carrien is an excellent addition to the SLA Industries set and well worth buying.

SLA Industries FREE Rulebook

All around a good RPG. It's age shows in some places (I hear a new edition is coming out sometime in the next few years), and there's a few "glitches" where the rulebook referrs to materials that don't exits, but all-around excellent.

SLA Industries FREE Rulebook
by Erathoniel W. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 11/30/2010 22:08:49

SLA Industries is an awesome game. Granted, the setting is depressing, and you may not be able to sleep as easily (at least if you're squeamish like me) after reading through it, but it is really a great game. Niche audience, maybe. Bad, no.

With a rich background and no dearth of excitement, SLA Industries is one of the more professional science fiction games, and one of the better ones too, with a subtle overtone of horror and conspiracy.

SLA Industries FREE Rulebook
by William H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/25/2009 00:23:24

SLA Industries rules the World of Progress, a World called Mort. You work for SLA. Everyone works for SLA. You work in the troublshooting department, on call. When you work. • A brutal violent hybrid of Paranoia, cyberpunk, and fantasy, with a touch of noir. A nice, clean d10 based system. The PDF is nice, and OCRed for convenience. • This is not a game suitable for children. The humor in the rulebook is dark and brutal, and often sexual. The images are PG13 to softer R. The theme of paranoid cyber troubleshooters with wigged out elves with super-psi... well, let's just say it can be a blast... but it can also turn totally juvenile with the wrong approach. • I'd forgotten about playing SLA back in the 90's, until I saw this up for download, and it brought back memories. Fond, disturbing memories of death in the sewers of Mort. The world of progress is a grim place. A good place for a killing spree... make yours count.

SLA Industries FREE Rulebook
by Nigel A. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/18/2009 16:36:12

SLA Industries, written by Nightfall Games, is a remarkable game system given the depth and complexity of the background information they created for this system. When it was released it was viewed as a dynamic concept and used a different, but not original, combat system. Character generation relies on point system not dice rolling and the majority of the games' mechanics are designed to allow the players to emmerse themselves in the dark and forboding world of the gothic punk genre. The only drawback with SLA Industries is the release of information regarding "The Truth". I strongly recommend that you do not research information regarding SLA Industries if you intend to run a campaign in this universe as the knowledge of the "Truth", in my humble opinion, destroys the overall uniqueness of the game itself. Overall I thoroughly recommend this system as a different, engaging and addictive alternative to your classic game systems.

Coolest story for a game ever. Good set up for GM ideas. Also, an interesting character advancement process based on rank and not power of the character.

It was free, although a scan rather than a pdf. Its the entire ruules as advirtised, but being scanned, its not as easy to read on screen as a pdf. Frankly, the setting did nothing for me, but I'll give it 5 starrs for having the guts to put their core product out for free.

SLA Industries FREE Rulebook
by Matthew B. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/18/2007 01:20:01

SLA Industries is simply the finest Dark Future RPG setting.

The feel of the setting is never in question, the writers, illustrators, and editors did a great job. After reading through both 'editions' of the SLA Industries main book, the original certainly appears more carefully crafted as the illustrations are clearer and not so dark as the second 'edition'/printing was, which looks as though the scanned the book with a bad scanner and printed it. The fact a copy is available on PDF for free is amazing for such a perfect setting.
