Pangenre RPG Core Rules - Second Edition
by Stephen Y. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/01/2016 10:28:55

Out of 415 pages, 411 are the content. The table of contents is 8 pages long.

The system gives a lot of player granularity. There are hundreds of pages of rules, which migth deter beginners, and maybe even GMs and player's who have played for a few years. This is not a lite system; and that's not saying it's a bad thing. For players who like highly detailed characters and rules; try this one; the rules practically cover everything/every situation. The character sheet is 4 pages (page 2 is highly detailed).

There are a few pieces of colour art throughout the PDF.

Magic is covered in another book (294 pages). The system is 2d10 +/- modifiers. At £2.46/$3.54, it's worth looking at.

Pangenre RPG Core Rules - Second Edition
by Michael J. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/22/2015 16:01:43

This is from the school of we must have rules for everything. So there are hundreds of pages of rules, which must be trimmed to actually play it. Admittedly some of the crowd is good, as in rules on how aging affects characters. Also I admit that the rules are explained well. It's just that there are too many.

The Second World War
by Charles N. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/22/2013 16:44:33

This print-n-play offers an incredible amount of detail for the price. Well thought out rules link the European and Pacific theaters of operations to produce a truly global game. I like that the game differentiates between types of land, naval and air units. PDF quality is good, so the quality of the game components is up to the buyer's preferences. Still reading through the rule book.

From Mud to Silver: Horror in the Old West (1st Edition)
by Erik S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/17/2012 14:12:58

I bought this adventure to use it with our Aces High campaign (Chaosium Monograph) I am running with Basic RolePlaying. Was not familiar with the Pangenre RPG beforehand but after I got the adventure I saw that it was basically a d20 system similar to D&D3,5/Pathfinder.

I have read through the adventure but haven't had the chance to run it yet but it is planned to be used. It is very tied to different locations in the adventure and each location is seen as a mini-adventure. I like how simple and clear each location are organised together and the story seemed to fit very nicely together with our current weird west campaign.

Seeing as the system is d20 converting it to other systems shouldn't be to much work, as long as you have some sort of Old West sourcebook at hand you mostly just have to replace items and such with the ones written for the system you use.

The adventure is highly recommended for anyone who wants to run a supernatural horror mystery in the old west regardless of what system they use.

The only minus I can think of is that the adventure can feel a bit railroaded where you explore one location before moving on to the next one. But each location is very detailed and packed with atmosphere and they don't have to explored in a certain order. Each location is like different problem you have to solve to get a piece of the overall puzzle you need to piece together to solve the mystery. It is something I don't think people will dwell on.

Erik, thank you for your review of our first adventure module! One thing I wanted to mention is that although Pangenre is built ON Open Game content, it really is a different character and combat resolution system. No classes. No levels. No hit points. It's all ability and skill-based. But the core mechanics of play (2d10 + modifiers vs. difficulty class), including the flow of combat (initiative-based 6 second combat rounds), do retain the basics of d20/OGL. The module's primary author felt that it would be best presented in a set order of encounters, which is why it can seem "railroad-y," but that is a fair criticism. It is the reason we included the "Continuity" chapter to help GMs when the players strayed too far from the "script." We're glad you liked it! Feel free to drop us a line at pgrulequestion@pangenre.com or on Facebook.

Pangenre RPG Magic (1st Edition)
by Naomi B. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/28/2011 15:13:24

I loved this book. I particularly liked the low magic section but I would have liked a little more detail on this. However the book was big enough that maybe this could be a future supplement. I was looking for something to use for a post apocalyptic/urban fantasy type game where magic is still returning to the world and this was the best I found. It even shows how to develop a werewolf without the cinematic strength. Keep it up and I'll be watching for more in this line.

Thank you very much for the kind review. We are currently working on an expanded and polished second edition (probably in 2013) that expands everything, including the low magic side of the system. Feel free to drop us a line at pgrulequestion@pangenre.com or visit us on Facebook to let us know what you like best and dislike most so we can further improve the product line in our next iteration!

Pangenre RPG Core Rules (1st Edition)
by Naomi B. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/28/2011 15:04:38

I liked this idea that lets you use different systems in one game. I especially liked the low magic rules which would be good in an apocalyptic or urban fantasy game. I'll probably use the Magic book more often but this still has some good ideas.

Pangenre RPG Modern Firearm Cards
by David B. S. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 03/30/2011 21:18:48

This is a great idea! I am used to various fantasy-themed equipment and spell cards, but its about time a publisher did it for modern gaming! I am sure fans of Pangenre would also like to see other cards, such as modern armor and modern melee weapons as well (And don't forget about future items too!).

The cards are easy to interpret and read and the art is in black and white, but clear and attractive. All the info a player or GM needs is there!

Thank you for taking the time to give our product a look-in. This was very much an experiment, and it has been fairly well received as an add-on for our RPG System. We have created a version using all of the non-crew-served Open Game Content firearm weapons that is available separately (alas, not a freebie, but it's just a buck). When we release the next major Pangenre RPG System iteration, we will also create cards for melee weapons, and perhaps other objects as well.
