Minstrel Stories Volume 1
by Marc G. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/30/2011 15:05:17

A real eye opening product that totally does what it says on the tin. This will save you hours of prep time through its no nonsense approach on how to successfully run encounters for your fantasy group with little to no prep without you players ever realising it was anything other than a detailed piece of intricately prepared work.

As well as very useful guidelines, it also contains a dozen excellent examples of side quests you can whip out to eat up an hour or two of your game session for those times when you're either short on inspiration of real world demands cut into your prep time that week.

At the reduced sale price of $4.95, a bargain.

Game Systems, Worlds, And Adventures
by William W. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 12/09/2010 12:10:00

Some solid advice on creating roleplaying adventure modules, setting supplements, and game systems that gamers will want to buy. Some of the advice is common sense, but worth reviewing in case you have overlooked something. If you are planning to break into the RPG business, don't. You won't make any profit, and gamers can be some of the most critical and least forgiving audiences of all. It could even sour you to the whole hobby, and that would be a darned shame. But if you're one of those passionate people who INSIST on contributing to the hobby, then I recommend that you check out this PDF.

This book is an enjoyable and quick read. If you're looking to publish your own gaming products, this would be a very good read to start. It does not give you a step by step "how-to" solution, but does present some of the pitfalls and some ideas on unique approaches to publishing. As inspiration, this book excels!

The book does what it purports to do. It collects 28 pages of rather useful advice on the most common types of RPG products published into one small book. The advice is not exactly revolutionary, and at times there are areas where one would definitely wish for a bit more expansion, but that's not the goal of this book. Those answers, of course, are sequestered in the actual gamer lifestyle program. As an advertisement for this program, I suppose it works. I'm not terribly impressed. However, as a short collection of publishing advice, it presents numerous do's and don'ts that are pretty valuable for the price tag of a small lunch. If you're looking to publish and want to know where to start, this is a good book to pick up, and you will breeze through it so quickly you will definitely feel like all this publishing stuff ain't gonna be so bad after all.

When I started reading this, I wanted something to smash. I thought "28 pages?". I'm not really in a great mood, so I figured: eh, 28 pages, can't be good, easy target.

This product fought back with a vengeance. It's not so useful for a gamer, so much, as a wannabe publisher or potentially a GM who wants to figure out how to share his setting with other GM's for a bit more money.

Ultimately, it's a niche audience. Not for everybody, not terribly useful for the dedicated. But, if you want to see a good, concise guide to what you should do to sell products (untested, but they provide examples of products that inspire their advice), look no further.

So, in summary: Good, not great, niche audience, wanna publish stuff? Look here.

And, you may wanna remember that I wanted to kill this when I saw the review offer, so it's doing better than I thought it would.
