The Aberrant Codex: Mutations and Aberrations
by Fred [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/23/2025 23:22:28

This book is fantastic, especially the monsters, which are some of the best I’ve seen in any 5E supplement. The creature designs are imaginative, creepy, and full of personality, with tons of variety. Very well done!

The monster stats are ok but the player material is trash and unbalanced. Expect much better for the cost.

I love all your books, and this one might be my favorite! So many awesome monsters. I'm especially obsessed with the spidergoblins, can't wait to terrorize my players with them. The magic items are just what I was looking for too. Really cool stuff!

Mythological Creatures: A Monster Compendium for 5E
by Liam [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/22/2025 03:54:29

Edit note - On publisher response I decided to give the book another quick look and update my review, as a note I initially backed this product on kick starter, I back a lot of kick starters and though I usually don't back things with AI generation used i decided to give this a try for the concept alone. I will start with what is good and that is there is a mountain of stat blocks to use, if you are simply looking to easily throw an entity from mythology at your players with little prep this book is good for that. I will concede that a lot of these stat blocks are on par with that which is released by WOTC, they aren't bad quality though in my opinion a lot of them are repetitive in such a way that I question why so many different creatures were required for this single book. I wont harp on this point much since the publisher doesn't hide the fact but all images in this book is AI generated and painfully obvious. There are some images that do look alright such as the the splash "art" for Muspelheim and the kitsune, but most of the humanoid, demonic and beast pictures simply take up space (sometimes a whole page worth) and I'm simply left wondering why, with the amount raised in Kickstarter and the amount charged for just the PDF why not just cut back on the amount of images and hire a real artist to produce high quality art instead of these lifeless images. The writing is another issue with this book, while I concede the point that I do not know with 100% certainty that it was written using ai tools such as GPT. I at the very least can say that it reads like generative text and will flag 100% on AI checking tools such as GPTZero, and 80-100% on scribbler. I both read and tested multiple blocks of text from this book and they all follow this vibe and get the same results. Now this may be due to translation tool and an over reliance on grammarly, but either way what you are left with is frankly boring text that says a lot of words without much substance. The design of the book is good however, the way it is laid out is easy to follow and the use of the yellow notes to give advice on how to tie these mythological creatures into your tabletop game is useful. In conclusion I personally do not see myself getting much use out of this book, the information on the beings within are easily accessible and free to use, you do not need to spend 33 dollars to get the information along with a smattering of AI images, though if you want it just for the statblocks then maybe it is worth it for you there are enough here to run multiple campaign on.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We appreciate all feedback but would like to clarify a few points: Only the images in the book are AI-generated. All written content, including the statblocks and lore, is original and the result of a deep research into mythology and 5E design principles. As for the statblocks themselves, while they share a consistent style (a necessity for any cohesive bestiary), we made a strong effort to ensure each creature has its own identity. Many statblocks introduce very unique traits, reactions, lair actions, or spells to reflect the mythology they come from. In 5E, mechanical consistency is important for ease of use, but that does not mean the monsters are "repetitive"; in design intent, abilities, or flavor. We see consistency as a feature, not a flaw - though we also tried to push the limits of standard 5E creature design where it served the source material. Regarding AI detection tools, it's important to note that they are not always reliable. Several studies have shown that these tools often misclassify human-written text as AI-generated, especially those from non-native English writers. In addition to that, OpenAI's own AI Text Classifier, which was intended to detect AI-generated content, was discontinued due to its low accuracy and high false-positive rates. Furthermore, we also make use of tools like Grammarly and similar software (depending on the writer) to check grammar, clarity, and form. This may result in a more neutral or polished style, which we suspect may trigger AI detectors as well. It's also worth mentioning that the Kickstarter campaign that funded this book was met with wide success and enthusiasm. For this reason, while we appreciate and take into account every review, we stand by the authenticity, creativity, and quality of the work we produced.

Mythological Creatures: A Monster Compendium for 5E
by Jeffrey [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/15/2024 12:09:56

Backed this on KS, and it blew away expectations. Highest quality content. I was hesitant to buy a book of monsters, but the theme intrigued me, and I am glad I did back it. Great supplement, especially if running anything earth/historical based, or just to throw in some well thought out and balanced monsters that your players in RL might recognize and have fun with!

Mythological Creatures: A Monster Compendium for 5E

As a dedicated follower since day one, I must say the final product is fantastic! The monsters are incredible, and I absolutely love the mythological theme. This compendium is amazing, featuring lots of interesting creatures, including many "minor" mythological monsters often overlooked in other manuals. The perfect addition to any DM's collection!

Pets and Animal Companions: Leveling Rules
by Peter D. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/06/2023 04:48:17

Wow, this is awesome! The rules are well done and interesting, and each of the pets presented has a lot of flavour and unique abilities, favorite foods and activities. The XP system looks very balanced, where your pet levels along your character in a good way to keep the pace. The pet shop contains some very cool items, I'd love to see more added because the ideas are amazing!
