Warlord Ascendant
by Noel [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/24/2024 16:24:26

I played my first game today and had lots of fun. There was quite a lot of page flipping but that was largely due to learning a new game and by the end I was starting to remember the system. This is a skirmish warband game in the vein of Five Leagues, where your band of warriors travel around No Man’s Land battling other warbands or monsters. There is a management phase where the campaign elements happen and a battle phase for moving your toy soldiers around. Great fun!

Another great title from Alex T. This book has a distinctive setting and a huge amount of content. I’m really looking forward to creating a character and sending them off around the Nolurian Sector for adventure and advance along the Path of Ascendancy.

I regret purchasing this product. If you are a GM just read DotF for ideas. If you are a player, ask your favorite GM to read it. The author of this product defiantly has. It takes a wonderful concept and turns it into a hack and slash. Sure, there are lots of generic randomization tables but nothing innovative. The entire concept is taken from DotF and other game rule sets.

Salvage & Sorcery: Scraphounds of Cygnus
by Anthony [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/05/2024 21:08:17

Combat is a slog and the 1s canceling hits along with enemies getting armor and auto canceling hits means good luck killing anything and living. I am trying to figure out how people play tested it and enjoyed it. Just dying isn’t fun. And the battle board doesn’t leave any strategic decisions like using cover etc to try and not get hit. The game exploration was fun, it’s a better take on 4AD and D100 Dungeon but combat needs work for an enjoyable game. At least some special starter enemies to allow the player some satisfaction.

While I am disappointed with combat as it is a big focus, I am happy there are some great ideas in the game.

I'm sorry if you're finding combat frustrating. I hope you didn't forget the fact that 6s rolled are always a success and on top of that you can re-roll them, so they more than make up for the fact that 1s cancel successes. The game was playtested by several people and the majority managed to finish their missions successfully. Of course, a handful of people can't really account for the immense variety that a fully randomly generated game like this one can produce, so there's always going to be some unbalance. I'm a single developer and don't have the resources to playtest a game in the scale larger companies do. I'm glad you at least liked the exploration, maybe you can use it in some other of your games.

Salvage & Sorcery: Scraphounds of Cygnus

Feels a bit like a high concept 80’s board game that would come with a bunch of random room tiles and plastic miniatures. (think HeroQuest)

A bit light on the RP side of things, but plenty of room for a GM to work it in if they want. At the end of the day though the core gameplay is all about highly randomized missions and loot.

Great solo system based around giving your character buffs based on the amount of players in the party. Perfectly playable with 1-4 PCs.

Great setting and plenty of areas for your scraphounds to explore... and run for their lives. :D Dice pool system with a neat mechanic for adding tension as you explore or search for your mission objectives.

Every Blackoath Entertainment product I’ve purchased has been extraordinary! Salvage & Sorcery had enabled me to quickly and easily get a game going with friends that are new to this title and are even new to the TTRPG hobby! “S&S” has a fast paced combat that feels so rewarding with its mostly d6 system and still give the players a sense of adventure and the tools to make the experience into a longer campaign! This really is a wonderful addition to anybody’s game library, wether they be a veteran or novice! ….almost forgot to say that this game, along with all the Blackoath titles, have the best solo rules in the industry! Enjoy!!!

Ruthless Heavens, Boundless Fate
by Florian [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/02/2024 02:41:05

Summary: This game has an interesting sci-fantasy setting that feels like Dragonball Z mixed with fantasy Aetherpunk to me and fun character customization. It’s great for both solo players and group play, offering a lot of storytelling possibilities and great adventure-building tools. If you enjoy story-telling on an epic scale with your character getting stronger and stronger, this game is for you. Highly recommended!

Full Review:

I’ve been playing this game solo, and it’s been an absolute blast. The rules are straightforward, striking a good balance between simplicity and depth. There’s a lot of room for customization, and character building without ever feeling overwhelming. The setting is great—a unique mix of sci-fantasy that brings to mind Dragonball Z mixed with Aetherpunk. It’s not just a backdrop but a fun world with interesting factions, conflicts, and the drive to gain power. The setting pages provide a lot of plot hooks and cool locations. The game’s focus on character progression is fun and fast-paced. With 50 character levels, you play as the strongest of the strong, facing off against other mighty heroes across worlds. The drive to get stronger—hunt the next enemy, find the next powerful item, and upgrade your weapons—is a core part of the experience. If you love games that push your character to become ever more powerful, this one is for you. However, if you prefer playing average, everyday characters, this might not be your cup of tea.

One of the game’s standout features is its impressive toolkit, which includes adventure generators, NPC and monster creators, and more. The adventure generators are particularly well-done, offering diverse challenges that keep gameplay fresh. I wish more RPGs included such comprehensive tools! For solo players, the game provides oracles, theme and action tables, NPC reaction tables and more. The gameplay has many interesting elements—unique loot like living weapons, monster hunts, cooking mechanics, base-building, and other things.

Overall, I believe that this RPG is an incredible addition to your collection, with its compelling setting, robust tools, and engaging mechanics. It’s clear that a lot of passion went into creating this game, and it absolutely shines through in every aspect.

An amazing science fantasy RPG with lots of great random tables, and a very detailed character progression. More open ended than some other of the Blackoath RPGs, but that is a good thing. Includes oracles to help with solo or GMless play. Highly recommended.

Simply a great game, truly captures the feeling of a survival dungeon crawler. The game system is easy to pick up, but gameplay wise theres a learning curve. Personally I love theorycrafting character builds, only TTRPG with classes complex and esoteric enough to do this.

Ker Nethalas: Into the Midnight Throne
by Gary [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/08/2024 12:52:58

This title is not for the faint of heart. It's a dark dungeon crawler with an amazing capability of perpetuating itself onto and taking over your gaming table. The dice rolling in this game is also not of your standard simple D&D rolling style, which makes this offering a huge breath of fresh air to us older jaded dungeon crawlers who have seen it all. Alex brings an amazing adventure to the table which hearkens back to the days of the original Rogue on the PC - except with a flare of imagination that really draws you in. The game can be brutal, like Dark Souls, and so you need to have your wits about you - there is no lazy lather rinse and repeat cycle in here, as the moment you let down your guard, or get into a complacent frame of mind, this game has an unerring tendency to throw you a real challenge. The writing and the world lore are first class. Necessarily sparse, but enough to give you a sense of immersion. The creatures are original and Alex has taken care to describe each one, and give them enough of a description to bring you that moment of dread in the encounters. I'm on my third character, and doing better, but since my wife named her, she's holding me accountable to not letting her die... and so the game has taken on an even greater challenge for me now!

Colin I came across this title while browsing utube. I am in my 70s and Now cannot get players together so I play solo. This is an excellent game to pass time, it is a challenging game equal D100 or 4 against darkness. I also recommend Sacrifice and Broken shores by Alex T.
