Fantastic game setting and totally like that it uses the 5e rules which means its compatible with just about any 5e rules out there. My only little gripe is being a US citizen, even though I'm familiar with the metric system and use it frequently for many sci-fi based RPGs that implement it.
The use of the metric system here makes conversions a little clumsy in this game. Average D&D square is 5ft, while here its 1.5 m (roughly the same). But the implementation of 1.5 m square kinda throws things off and you end up doing a lot of needless multiplication to figure out range.
Using 1.5 m grid maps make any 5ft grid map compatible from any 5e game. But then you are pausing momentarily to figure out a distance like Traumatize (36 m) to how many 1.5 m squares (which is 24). Its not difficult and just basic math. But can slow down some sessions
I would of preferred either using English measurements, or just sticking to 1 m or 2 m grid squares. I felt the 1.5 m was to shoehorn compatibility with other 5e products. A minor gripe, for a majority of a great game.

I wanted to really like this book, but for a setting built entirely around genetic alterations, the options were shockingly limited. Every character idea seemed to be thwarted by either thr necessary options not being available, or options that should have been genetic options, were mechanical upgrades. While this may get resolved someday in a supplement (Shadows of Korea did not), it was very unfortunate nonetheless.

This is a very well designed and high production book, and there are some very neat ideas.
Being familiar with DnD 5E, I initially thought that this would be an easy transition into cyberpunk.
While it is partially true and you wil definitely find some familiarity with DnD 5E, unfortunately 5E also starts to show its limits and there are now better systems to play Cyberpunk.
Ultimately, I find the game too tactical and not enough focused on the narrative aspects. I agree this an entirely subjective view but I have grown out of 5E and this will not work for me.
Go for it, if you really want the 5E framework, it will be a nice change out of the fantasy genre into the world of Cyberpunk.

Having seen a number of adaptations of 5E for future settings, GeneFunk 2090 is the vision I find most compelling paired with mechanics my groups have enjoyed. This is a strong follow-up volue to the first and I hope we'll see more.

Pregenerated form fillable (you can change any part of the text, such as names) characters at level 1 and level 3. Great for jumpstarting an adventure or campaign or ideas for NPCs.

Exactly what it says, but missing 2 pages from the book: one for putting additional character info like backstory, character portrait, allies/enemies and such; and the other the Hack Sheet (the spell sheet for those who haven't read the book yet), which feels like a rather important omission. The only other issue is that the Current Hit Points box and Death Saves hexs/boxs can't be typed in/clicked on. Other than that everything works like it should.
Edit: All issues have been fixed! Changing rating accordingly. Thanks for a quick response from the developer!

This is one of THE best DD5E conversion i have ever seen.
It's fast to learn, has a lot of options, an engaging lore and the mechanics go well with the cyberpunk/transhuman setting the game has.
If you can get a playtest of it, do it. You won't be disapointed.

I love this setting! my players are really enjoying the very diverse creations they come up with due to the mods to themselves. the classes are fantastic as well, even without magic, the Hacks are pretty dang powerful when used right! or just punch your way though!
It feels lighter than say shadowrun, but still has that undercurent of needing to do things in the shadows. its a great setting, and am vastly looking forward to campaign modules that come out for it.

This book has been moving around my house since it arrived. It goes from hand to hand, rarely sitting on the shelf unconsulted. We expect we'll play more games in the intended setting, and we're convinced that the mechanics and creative opportunity is strong enough we'll create our own locations and run the GeneFunk classes in them.
There have been some strong 5e publications from independent publishers. This holds up next to any of them. Nice work, CRISPR Monkey.

Backed the kickstarter on this and a few similar ones looking to see how to bridge Cyberpunk genre with 5e rulesets.
In my opinion GeneFunk 2090 so far seems to be the best example of this.
Things I really like:
The step beyond basic cyberpunk into gene editing and transhumanism. In that regard it seems much more mature a genre than simple cybernetics.
The classes seem nicely thought out and less 'cartoonish' than what you sometimes get when shoe-horning sci-fi into 5e.
The flavor the the hacks for the two hacker classes - simple little things like wording how your Alarm 'hack' works in the world of 2090 helps the story telling vibe of hacking vs magic.
Overall just a great attention to detail and making the ruleset feel natural and less forced. It may be one of the best SciFi adaptations to the 5e system I've personally seen.
