SM05 The World Guide to Barnaynia
by Martin V. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/07/2021 14:01:54

They can call it Banana shaped but from the description more like a bent baguette, but quibbles about the make up aside, looks like a fun world to play in. Loads of cultures along with the types of races that live there and an absolute shed load of locations for the whole world so you're always near something of interest. Rounded out with some monsters, pantheons, various npc groups and treasure, there is plenty here to spark any number of adventures

SM16 The Book of Legends
by Jonathan R. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/04/2021 00:19:23

This is a very useful addition to the previous work on the world of Dunromin, or as a handy source of instant content for any Dungeon Master who has been a bit lasy of late. It has some of the trademark humour - including the all female party of womens libbers. It is as usual well writte, doesn't take itself too seriously and is clearly based on some considerable gaming expeience. What is new is the artwork. There is a second artist delivering some world class fantasy art in this guide. Very pretty.

SM01 A Players' Guide to Dunromin
by Martin V. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 12/24/2020 12:32:30

Great little city, so much detail that you sometinmes wish for a larger map. More NPC's than you can shake a large stick at and enough locations that you can easily get your adventurers in (and out if you are feeling nice) of trouble

Hi MArtin, Glad you like it, I agree the map in the player's book is pretty small but the SM00 product "the Travellers Atlas of Dunromin and the Land of the Young" I offer has a much bigger map in it; A3 in fact - with lots more detail too, including floor plans of the temples, a plan of the castle and several maps of the surrounding area. AND it's FREE (for the pdf download). Simon

SM14 Of the Rakuli
by Jonathan R. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/07/2020 07:49:54

This is another tile in the highly detailed mosaic that is the city of Dunromin and the world of Barnaynia - an excellent resource which I can’t wait to tease the players with.

As someone who has grown up with RPGs over several decades I really appreciate something obviously written by someone else who has - with also nods to Adams, Pratchett, Carroll and in this case Poe and Lovecraft particularly. As well as an obvious reverence for Mr E Gary and the early pioneers. And THAT episode of Community.

The construction of a new race shows a deep understanding of existing creatures and how they can fit together sensibly, and that not all individuals will be the same - and I really like that it describes things that nobody knows and the players will have to learn (no doubt the hard way) as in characters in Alien or other horror movie. Or maybe there will be cake? The scenario suggestions are excellent. Obviously the players will walk in the wrong direction, but I know how to tempt them. “Hugely powerful and unusual magic items you say?” This will be fun!

SM03 Cityguide to the City of Karan
by Jonathan R. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/15/2020 10:31:24

This is and excellent addition to the earlier Dunromin books, providing another city for players to explore in the same world. The author clearly has years of Games Master experience and wriites just enough detail for the players without being too heavy handed and prescriptive - and the subtle humour (the parties gone the wrong way again!) that comes from all of those years. Get the free map book of Dunroming at the same time that has biger maps than the in the first two books and show some of the areas the party could travel between Dunromin and Karan. The first two books are impressive in an E Gary Gygax way. These additions build on that nicely.

SM12 The Trials of a Young Wizard
by Bob V. G. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/07/2020 20:18:40

For several days, I have soloed my way through SM12 The Trials of a Young Wizard using The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox. This adventure is pay what you want at DriveThruRPG. It is designed for the older D&D system with THACO. I converted it to 3rd edition D&D. It is designed for low level characters and a Dungeon Master. I started with a level 1 wizard and three other characters (level 2). During the first adventure I did have two followers. They died and I realized I needed a cleric. The quest was to find someone. I never found him. For the second adventure I sold a horse (it was not mine) and hired a level 1 cleric to help out. The quest was to retrieve a magic item. I never found it. My characters kind of fell into the third quest. We discovered the truth quickly, but most of the "monsters" got away. The ugly = I was the victim of sneaky tactics several times. Ouch. The bad = I was assaulted by nasty smells and gruesome sights. The good = Nice maps and details on locations. 48 pages of goodness. So, take on the three quests and do better than me!
