The Dark Crystal Adventure Game
by Amanda [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/24/2024 02:21:58

I struggled really hard between giving this game 4 or 5 stars. If I could give 4.5, I would. This game is beautiful. The art is amazing. The hardcopy version has amazing design elements. Even the simple texture of the book is wonderful- I just want to pet it. The mechanics might be the most elegant that I've ever seen. There are just enough rules to play, just enough for the GM to run. Just enough to cover unexpected circumstances. Just enough, and not a scrap of bloat. As close to perfect as I've ever seen. So why not 5 stars? IT HAS NO $%^&ING INDEX!!!!!! To be fair, it does have a table of contents. And it has superscripted notes on where to find more information on specific items that make things easier. But this is entirely too meaty a book to not have an index. Players might be able to do without one, but not GMs. I bought the hardcopy version of the book and hadn't planned to buy the pdf as well. Until I realized that doing 'Control-F' was the only way to really find what I needed.

My Little Pony: Tails of Equestria - The Storytelling Game
by Dustin C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/11/2023 19:48:46

Not only do these folks know the TV show well, but they also created a system that is really good. Everything is rated by a die type, and you have to roll a target number or higher (2-20). The book is easy to read, and easy to understand (my 8 year old read the whole thing with no problems). The system and the adventures have both adult and kids apeal to it.

The only things that are negative is that I think they have too many target numbers. They should have less numbers. I understand why you would want to include a d20, but it's quite a jump between a d12 and d20, so I woiuld have just left them out (but it's not an deal breaker by far).

They also wasted a lot of pages on random number pages at the end of the book. These are in case you don't have any dice... but I'm pretty sure that if you were able to get ahold of this book, then the place you ordered it from has dice. So, it was just wasted space.

I'm hoping this game stays on the market, because the other MLP rpg coming out looks like it's aimed more at adults with that system that does not look kid friendly.

My Little Pony: Tails of Equestria - The Curse of the Statuettes
by Eric P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/20/2022 13:39:14

All in all, this is a fun scenario. I ran this using Savage Worlds rules for my players and the adventure was enjoyed by all. The players all bought into the Friendship is Magic concept in dealing with the villain.

The adventure has just enough open world in parts to not feel too incredibly railroady. The initial portion and when looking for multiple macguffins later on is open ended enough to give the players some agency on how they complete things. Admittedly the rest of the adventure can be a bit railroady but if you are dealing with newer or younger players that might not be a bad thing.

The various challenges that come up are varied and allow for some creative thinking to deal with them.

My only complaint is that the main villain makes multiple appearances and it can get frustrating when she escapes repeatedly. Other than that, it was a fun adventure.

Print and Play: Pacific Rim Extinction Wave 3
by Darren F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/08/2022 01:56:27

I got this as a wave 3 backer and am very disappointed, not so much with whats provided but by how its provided.

Half the Stl's aren't scaled correctly, none are supported and none are parted for smaller printers.

The pdf's for the cards are not layed out in a manner that makes them easy to print ( 1 per page) and requires a lot work on the users side using photoshop or an online printing service to prep properly.

Whats provided in no way is worth the asking price.

Edit: Following some issues regarding copyright infringement with regards to having the cards printed, River Horse were kind enough to alter the description to assuage those concerned.

Print and Play: Pacific Rim Extinction Wave 3

The files are well made and easy to print (have been doing so on a Mars 2 Pro), though the kaiju models are too large compared to the Jaegers. Not as in they shouldn't be taller than the Jaegers, I mean they're just scaled up wrong so that even the bases are the wrong sizes. From what I've figured out from a bit testing and trial and error, they should be scaled down as follows:

Kaiju Drone - 83.51%

Knifehead - 77.1%

Raiju - 84.73%

Scunner - 84.7%

Beyond that, while I WISH the Wave 3 models had been physically released, this is atleast a compensation of a sort. Still, hopefully Wave 1 and 2 are released here as well, hopefully free for backers, so that the models can be of the same quality.

Jim Henson's Labyrinth: The Adventure Game
by Christopher M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/19/2020 16:39:20

I purchased the phsyical hardcover product through pre-order on River Horse's website. I contacted them about getting a digital copy and they sent me a free link to the drivethruRPG pdf. It's beautiful. The adventures are spot-on. Require thinking and player problem solving. This is going to be great to run for kids or nostalgic adults. It is it's own RPG system, but you can easily substitute your favorite system in here. Since there isn't really combat or death per se, you can really switch it up however you want. Want a dice pool system? Done.
