Grey Steel, Red Storm - Regimental Scenarios in the Soviet Union 1941-1943
by CRAIG J. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/12/2023 02:58:47

Converted Guderian's Folly to a PanzerGrenadier Scenario.... Using some very good House rules for Double Blind Play over VASSAL....

Real good exercise.....Soviet Player did a massive Flank push, and the Germans were not set up to respond with sufficient force....probably rework scenario a bit---but as proof of concept, worked well.... Looking forward to doing the same with Barbarossa and Rostov!

A great way to play scenarios different to points-balanced ones.

Barbarossa - Kicking in the Door...
by CRAIG J. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/04/2019 14:05:30

I'm so glad I bought this.

First of all the historical treatment at the beginning is a great read.

The Campaign system is presented really well--and it hangs together wonderfully. It will provide many many hours of entertainment for me over the years. The entire approach is so flexible--you can have multiple parallel efforts going on (4 different Panzer Divisions) run by different players--even using different miniature and board game tactical systems to resolve combats --and they all stay related, part of the campaign--influencing future support and logistics ...or you can trim it down to a single Panzer Division thrust and play that out. There are even simplified tactical rules, and a battle game system, to allow you to play out engagements without miniatures or boardgames.

This has sparked many ideas and has provided many times it's cost in entertainment and ideas for the future. Anyone who gets this--I'd love to hear from you--we've got ideas on world-wide campaigns over VASSAL!...contact me!

Can't recommend this highly enough.

Grey Steel, Red Storm - Regimental Scenarios in the Soviet Union 1941-1943
by Pat C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/17/2018 17:10:16

It starts off with a brief history of the war, with high level maps. In a VERY nice touch, the scenarios are highlighted on the maps. So, for each one, you can easily understand the context of the scenario in regard to the phase of the war, and the location of the fight.

Then follows details on the scenario (table size!) scale, turn size, and other assumptions made for the scenarios. This is really useful, and will help you to tweak this to your favorite rule set. There is also a key to the natural and man made terrain on each map. It has the effects of spotting and combat, so again, helps to use this with your rule set of choice.

The scenarios have an introduction, a briefing for each side, and your mission. For use at tournaments, there is an intel summary you can give the players.

Last there is an Order of battle for each side, and the historical outcome.

15 scenarios are presented, covering the War in the East from June of 41 to June of 43.

There is also a nice bibliography at the end.

An extremely reasonable value for your 5 USD! (pdf form)
