When I think of "high fantasy", I think of Talislanta! This beautifully illustrated and updated classic has a fantastic world to explore, interesting archetypes (racial classes), deadly creatures to run from and also airships!
The system uses a simple d20 + skill + stat (roll high) mechanic, which is easy to grok and fast to play. Skill checks, combat and magic use the same system.
That's the good stuff; the bad is that there's no index (yet) and I'd love more spells, along with more skill and combat examples. Otherwise, this is a great product! Love it!

This is gives solid insight into both the world and the kingdoms of Talislanta, its cultures and even a good amount of lore! You'll understand how the various races/cultures view the world around them in an easy to read format, which can help players step into the roles of their characters and also can help a gm to bring npc's to life!

As a resource for the fantastic world of Talislanta, this pdf is a must-have. Most creatures can modified for higher tier play and updated art is throughout.
Things I wish were included are creature by terrain/ region tables and of course treasure tables. And for some reason a Gods of Talaslanta chapter is in the back of this book.
Even if you don't play Talislanta, anyone who loves creatures will enjoy this pdf.

Minis are great except they are not scaled properly.

Roleplaying goodness from back in the day. The artwork is good, and the quality is excellent. I enjoyed how distinct the races and the locations felt. Loved the story that you could follow, always been a sucker for a setting brought to life through examples. Not sure why they dropped the price to free, but glad to be able to pick it up again. I still have my physical copy somewhere though it has been ages since I've cracked it open.

Beautifully presented, the artwork and layout is well done, but the system itself lacks meat compared to previous versions. The book does a good job of presenting the material for play in an earlier era of Talislantan history, and as a source book it works well. It appears to follow along with Talislanta's 4th edition characters in that race and class are combined. If you are familiar with both 4th and 5th edition, then whether this delights or annoys is a matter of preference. If you are familiar with the new breed of "semi-narrative" roleplaying games, you will be able to fill in the blanks where the mechanics are not well explained. If you want a more crunchy experience, I'd recommend using the setting with some of the more tactical options presented in earlier editions. (Which are still free to download).
In conclusion, I think this is a worthwhile source book, but it might prove difficult to run for new players due to the terseness of the system explanations.

This is actually an excellent product. I have given it only one star, however, because the quality of the scan is quite poor. It is rather blurry and the smaller fonts are very hard to read. This is particuarly noticable on a small screen. The poor quality of the scan is veryt suprising, given the fairly large file size. I suggest that the vendor should update this product with a clearer scan, which I am sure that they can do without increasing the file size.

Seems pretty awesome - I like it. Nice pictures, good and readable structure - a sourcebook and rulebook as it should be.

Delighted to find this long time companion in a free pdf format.
Talislanta System has always been one of my favorites, D20 + modifiers versus a fixed laddr of results. Very basic by today's standards but quite ahead of time in its gone days where D20 systemdi not exist (sure there was such a time!)
The wonderful part is really the ecosystem of the world, very detailled and all.
Creatures are original in a wicked way, entertaining and never have that "generic" kind you get in most other FRP.
The pdf is nice, exactly like my book on my sheves.
Doubleplusgood!

Honestly, I wasn't too impressed. The art is only rarely impressive, the writing is mediocre, the pacing is terrible, the story is cliched, the characters one dimensional. Though I love Talislanta, in this instance I feel cheated and wish I could get my money back.
