Short version: Is this worth $10? Absolutely, especially if you are a solo player. Go for it.
Long version: This is a solo adventure for Old School Essentials that can be done with 1 - 3 other players if desired. The first 2 or 3 pages contain instructions for how to use the book, as well as 4 pre-gen fighters you can utilize for your team. The rest of the book has a few stat blocks for encounters and numbered paragraphs you read to yourself as you progress in your adventure. Have you ever read any "choose your own adventure books?" It's pretty much functions like that.
It's got the old school vibe to it. There is a "Dark Lord" to the north that is almost ready to invade, so you join the army to aid in the fight. Your character is placed in a squad within the army so that you have to control up to four characters for the adventure. Do the roleplaying and conversations in your head, and read through the instructions to see how it turns out.
It's difficult, but not impossible. It seems balanced strictly for four level 2 fighters. My character was a Barbarian and stayed at level 2 throughout the entire adventure. Fighters should make it to level 3 by the final encounter. You unlock hard mode by playing a magic user because, let's face it, magic sucks until later levels.
If you intend to play solo for a while, this module would give you plenty of ideas on how to run a solo campaign. If you survive, you should walk away with some decent loot to use in another solo adventure.
There are a few errors, but nothing that deters from the adventure. I think one Map reference was incorrect. Some of the instructions are slightly unclear. For example: The book says that every fight should go to the death for enemies, but the stat blocks have a Morale stat with it (why include Moral if they are just going to stay and fight anyway?). Also, stat blocks have experience totals included, but the book tells you to not award XP at the end of every fight. I'm not sure why though, because it's not necessarily enough to give you an unfair advantage in the end-game.
All in all, a great adventure for solo play melee characters. A few nitpicks, but I honestly had so much fun that I don't really care.
