Grimoire - Tales of Wizardry and Intrigue

Let me tell you about Grimoire.

Grimoire is THE wizarding game. Who wants to waste time playing a muscled barbarian or a sneaky rogue when you can control THE COSMOS ITSELF?! They do away with notions of "class balance" and embrace all that is wizardy including, but not limited to, wands, robes, and most importantly a large lexicon of WORDS OF POWER.

A brief example of a game I ran in which the players where first-year students in a wizarding academy. After agreeing to play a game of "catch" with a troll one player had a tree thrown at him and, thinking quickly, took out his wand to cast a spell that would turn the tree to ash before it crushed him! Unfortunately he mixed up the grammatical order of his words of power, specifically the use of the word for "long range". This lead to his spell not going off until the tree was in physical contact with his wand which caused it to burst into flames AND crush him, bursting him into flames.

Thus began the school year and many, many similar incidents. 10/10 wizarding points.

About 20 minutes of "HOW DOES THIS WORK?", after that the fun started - transforming an inn into a ghost-inn? CHECK! Destroying several buildings by removing all plant-matter? CHECK! Creating a fake full moon because how else does one find a werewolf? ALSO CHECK!

These and other shenanigans are just the tip of the iceberg. Really reccommended for fun oneshots or parties where you're sure people would go crazy if they had unlimited power!

I had a lot of fun running this for a little over a month as a break from a "serious business" Cthulhu game. It took about half a game for the players to get a handle on the fact they had been handed the keys to infinite power (some restrictions apply, don't even worry about those restrictions, I'm sure everything will be fine because you're the best).

By the fourth game one of them had accidently created the new primary antagonist of the game. A fifty foot tall pigeon with an enhanced intelligence copy of one of the party member's minds. That's the kind of game this is and it is really, really fun.
