Noggle Stones

NOGGLE STONES is a role-playing game of fantastic adventure set in a past that never was. When the forces of darkness grow too strong to be contained in the world of the Faerie Kingdom, the fiends then cast their shadow over the dawn of 20th Century America. Can the goblins, elves, and dwarves put aside their differences to ally with the Great Republic of these United States? Can alchemy and sorcery stand up to locomotives and six-guns? How can a nation founded on liberty work together with a king and queen? What chance does any man or woman have against fear, when fear itself is a force all too real?

Designed by the acclaimed team behind IRONCLAW and ALBEDO, this game is written with the new player in mind ... yet it's sophiisticated enough for veteran gamers.  Learn more about the mysteries of Shadow.  Explore the Progressive Era United States, a country on the brink of change -- for better or for worse.  Fight with swords or knives, bows or guns, or mix and match!  Delve into the dark mystery of magic, at the risk of the call of the darkness ... or struggle against your own fear, hate, and greed to remain a hero in these trying times.

To play this game, you will need pencil, paper, and poly-hedral dice (four-sided, six-sided, eight-sided, ten-sided, and twelve-sided.)

One page of the PDF (p. 54, which is p.52 of the book) is badly corrupted, with the balloons illustrating the steps of character creation covering the text which outlines those steps. It's a thing I usually fix myself, but this is a complete mess. Every sentence is fragmented, at times single letters separated by a half-dozen Path artifacts, and the fragments are scattered without rhyme or reason. A letter that occurs at the top of the page may be in a fragment down at the bottom of the page's content. I've posted a screen shot of the page in question at

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
